2 For ever hallow'd be thy name
By all beneath the skies;

And may thy kingdom still advance,
Till grace to glory rise.

3 A grateful homage may we yield,
With hearts resign'd to thee;
And as in heav'n thy will is done,
On earth so let it be.

4 From day to day we humbly own
The hand that feeds us still;

Give us our bread, and teach to rest
Contented in thy will.

5 Our sins before thee we confess;
O may they be forgiv'n!
As we to others mercy show,
We mercy beg from heav'n.

6 Still let thy grace our life direct;
From evil guard our way;
And in temptation's fatal path
Permit us not to stray.

7 For thine the power, the kingdom thine; All glory's due to thee:

Thine from eternity they were,
And thine shall ever be.

"OUR FATHER" (Mat. vi. 9-13). Moravia St. David's-St. James'.

1 Our Father, God, who art in heaven, All hallowed be thy name!

C. M.

Thy kingdom come; thy will be done,
In earth and heaven the same.

2 Give us, this day, our daily bread;
And, as we those forgive
Who sin against us, so may we
Forgiving grace receive.

3 Into temptation lead us not;
From evil set us free:

The kingdom, power, and glory, Lord,
Ever belong to thee.

277. NOT WHAT WE WISH, BUT WHAT WE WANT.

Sidon St. Mary's—Burford.

1 Eternal God, we look to thee;
To thee for help we fly:

Thine eye alone our wants can see;
Thy hand alone supply.

2 Lord, let thy fear within us dwell,
Thy love our footsteps guide:
That love will all vain love expel;
That fear, all fear beside.

3 Not what we wish, but what we want, O let thy grace supply.

The good, unasked, in mercy grant:
The ill, though asked, deny.

278.

INTO THINE HAND I COMMIT MY SPIRIT.
(Psalm xxxi.)

Selma-St. Bride's-St. Clair.

1 My spirit on thy care,

Blest Saviour, I recline;
Thou wilt not leave me to despair,
For thou art love divine.

2 In thee I place my trust,
On thee I calmly rest;

I know thee good, I know thee just,
And count thy choice the best.

3 Whate'er events betide,

Thy will they all perform:

Safe in thy breast my head I hide,
Nor fear the coming storm.

4 Let good or ill befall,

It must be good for me,
Secure of having thee in all,
Of having all in thee.

HE CARETH FOR US.

8.8.6.

Grosvenor-University Hereford.

1 O Lord, how happy should we be,
If we could cast our care on thee,
If we from self could rest;
And feel at heart that one above,
In perfect wisdom, perfect love,
Is working for the best.

2 Could we but kneel, and cast our load,
E'en while we pray, upon our God,
Then rise with lightened cheer,
Sure that the Father, who is nigh
To still the famished raven's cry,
Will hear in that we fear.

3 How far from this our daily life!
Ever disturbed by anxious strife,
By sudden, wild alarms;
O could we but relinquish all

Our earthly props, and simply fall
On thine almighty arms!

THE LOVE OF CHRIST.

L.M.

Doversdale-Moffat-Hungary.

1 Come, gracious Lord, descend and dwell, By faith and love, in every breast;

Then shall we know, and taste, and feel
The joys that cannot be expressed.

2 Come, fill our hearts with inward strength, Make our enlarged souls possess,

And learn the height, and breadth, and length

Of thine immeasurable grace.

3 Now to the God whose power can do More than our thoughts or wishes know, Be everlasting honours done,

By all the church, through Christ his Son.

ABIDE WITH US.

10s.

Gibeon (No. 295, in "The Psalmist," edited by
Vincent Novello.)

1 Abide with me, fast falls the eventide : The darkness thickens: Lord, with me abide,

When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass

away;

Change and decay in all around I see:
O thou who changest not, abide with me.
