And heaven's voice thunder through the tomb,

"For ever with the Lord!”.

10 The tomb shall echo deep

That death-awakening sound;
The saints shall hear it in their sleep,
And answer from the ground.

11 Then, upward as they fly,
That resurrection-word,
Shall be their shout of victory,
"For ever with the Lord!"

12 That resurrection-word,
That shout of victory,

Once more,-"For ever with the Lord!"
Amen; so let it be!

THE VOICE FROM HEAVEN.

C. M.

Saxony-Revelation-Prestwich.

1 Hear what the voice from heaven proclaims For all the holy dead;

Sweet is the savour of their names,
And soft their lowly bed.

2 They sleep in Jesus, and are blessed,
How kind their slumbers are!

From sufferings and from sins released, And freed from every snare.

3 Far from this world of toil and strife,
They're present with the Lord;
The labours of their mortal life
End in a large reward.

THE WHITE-ROBED COMPANY.

St. Asaph-New York-Woolwich Common.

C. M.

1 How bright these glorious spirits shine! Whence all their white array?

How came they to the blissful seats
Of everlasting day?

2 Lo! these are they from suff'rings great, Who came to realms of light,

And in the blood of Christ have washed Those robes which shine so bright.

3 Now, with triumphal palms, they stand Before the throne on high,

And serve the God they love, amidst
The glories of the sky.

4 His presence fills each heart with joy,
Tunes every mouth to sing:

By day, by night, the sacred courts
With glad hosannahs ring.

5 Hunger and thirst are felt no more,
Nor suns with scorching ray;

God is their sun, whose cheering beams Diffuse eternal day.

6 The Lamb which dwells amidst the throne Shall o'er them still preside;

Feed them with nourishment divine,
And all their footsteps guide.

7 'Mong pastures green he'll lead his flock,
Where living streams appear;
And God the Lord from ev'ry eye
Shall wipe off ev'ry tear.

O GRAVE, WHERE IS THY VICTORY? C. M. St. Nicholas-St. Gregory-Bedford.

1 When the last trumpet's awful voice This rending earth shall shake,

When op'ning graves shall yield their charge,

And dust to life awake;

2 Those bodies that corrupted fell
Shall incorrupted rise,

And mortal forms shall spring to life
Immortal in the skies.

3 Behold, what heav'nly prophets sung
Is now at last fulfilled,

That death should yield his ancient reign
And vanquished quit the field.

4 Let faith exalt her joyful voice,
And thus begin to sing;

O Grave! where is thy triumph now? And where, O Death! thy sting? 5 Thy sting was sin, and conscious guilt, 'Twas this that arm'd thy dart; The law gave sin its strength and force To pierce the sinner's heart:

6 But God, whose name be ever blessed! Disarms that foe we dread,

And makes us conqu'rors when we die,
Through Christ our living head.

7 Then steadfast let us still remain,
Though dangers rise around,
And in the work prescribed by God
Yet more and more abound;

8 Assured that though we labour now,
We labour not in vain,

But, through the grace of heaven's great Lord,

Th' eternal crown shall gain.

THE BETTER COUNTRY.
St. Asaph-New York-Prospect.
1 There is a land of pure delight,
Where saints immortal reign;
Infinite day excludes the night,

And pleasures banish pain.

C. M.

2 There everlasting spring abides,
And never-withering flowers:
Death, like a narrow sea, divides
This heavenly land from ours.
3 Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood
Stand dressed in living green:
So to the Jews old Canaan stood,
While Jordan rolled between.

4 But timorous mortals start and shrink
To cross this narrow sea,
And linger shivering on the brink,
And fear to launch away.

5 O! could we make our doubts remove,
Those gloomy doubts that rise,
And see the Canaan that we love
With unbeclouded eyes!

6 Could we but climb where Moses stood, And view the landscape o'er,

Not Jordan's stream, nor death's cold flood,

Should fright us from the shore.
