Messages from the House.

A message was received from the House of Representatives re-returning, together with the report of the Committee of Conference thereon,

Senate bill No. 8 (file No. 32), entitled

A bill to prescribe a privilege tax for the use of the public highways by owners or drivers of motor vehicles by imposing a specific tax upon the sale or use, within the State of Michigan, of gasoline as defined herein; prescribing the manner and time of paying and collecting such tax and the duties of officials and other persons respecting such payment and collection; providing for the registration of dealers as defined herein; providing for certain exemptions and refunds, and for the disposition of the proceeds of such tax; and prescribing penalties for violation of this act.

The message informed the Senate that the House of Representatives had adopted the report of the Committee of Conference on the matters of difference between the two houses as to the bill.

The message further informed the Senate that the House of Representatives had also agreed to the title of the bill as amended by the Senate, and had ordered that the bill be given immediate effect.

The Senate concurred in the action of the House of Representatives in ordering that the bill be known as the Atwood-Baxter-Warner bill.

The bill was referred to the Secretary for enrollment printing and presentation to the Governor.

A message was received from the House of Representatives informing the Senate that the House of Representatives had this day adopted the following resolution:

House Resolution No. 13

Resolved, That the House of Representatives hereby consents to the adjournment of the Senate from January 28, 1925, to Tuesday, February 3, 1925, at 8:30 o'clock p. m., eastern standard time..

Funeral of Senator Henry.

The President designated as a committee from the Senate to attend the funeral of the late Senator James Henry at Battle Creek on Thursday, January 29, Senators Brower, Condon, Cummings, Leland, Penney, and Wilcox.

Mr. Whiteley moved that when the Senate adjourns today it stand adjourned until Tuesday, February 3, 1925, at 8:30 o'clock p. m.

The motion prevailed.

Leave of absence was granted to the members of the Committee on Finance and Appropriations, and of the various visiting committees.

Mr. Whiteley moved that the Senate adjourn.
The motion prevailed.

Accordingly, and in pursuance of the order previously made, the President declared the Senate adjourned until Tuesday, February 3, 1925, at 8:30 o'clock p. m.

Mr. Leland moved that the Senate adjourn.

The motion prevailed.

The presiding officer declared the Senate adjourned until tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4, at 2:00 o'clock p. m.
