MORNING:

"Unto Thee will I cry, O Lord my Rock."-Psa. xxviii. 1.

From darkness here and weariness
We ask not full repose;
Only be Thou at hand to bless
Our trial-hour of woes.

NOON:

"Be not afraid; only believe.".

Mark v. 36.

When we in darkness walk,

Nor feel the heavenly flame,

Then is the time to trust our God,
And rest upon His name.

EVENING:

Do my afflictions lead me to God's footstool? (Psa. l. 15.)

Behold me here in grief draw near,

Pleading at Thy throne, O King!

To Thee each tear, each trembling fear,
Jesus, Son of man, I bring!

MORNING :

"In Thy fear will I worship toward Thy holy temple.”—Psa. v. 7.

Be Thou near us, blessed Saviour,
Still at morn and eve the same;
Give us faith that cannot waver,
Kindle in us Heaven's own flame.

NOON:

"Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief."-Mark ix. 24.

When we leave the heights of Tabor
For earth's valleys dim and cold,
Through life's toil, and care, and labour,
Only Jesus can uphold.

EVENING:

Do I ever rise above the sorrows of

carth? (2 Cor. iv. 18.)

Sometimes I climb a little way,

And thence look down below;

How nothing there do all things seem
That here make such a show!

MORNING :

"I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."-Psa. xxiii. 6.

O the bright hope! my soul, be strong!
Soon wilt thou join the endless song,
Enter those courts so fair, so bright,
That temple which the Lamb doth light.

NOON :

"The righteous is delivered out of trouble."-Prov. xi. 8.

With patience wait awhile
The issue of thy woes,
Soon shall the desert smile
And blossom like the rose.

EVENING:

Do I seek to realize even present good from my trials?—(2 Cor. iv. 16.) Seems it long till purple morning Streaks the eastern sky with light? Stars with beauty are adorning E'en the sable brow of night.

MORNING :

"If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that."-Jam. iv. 15. Our residue of days or hours Thine, wholly Thine, shall be; And all our consecrated powers A sacrifice to Thee.

NOON:-
:-

"Boast not thyself of to-morrow." -Prov. xxvii. 1.

Watch, for thou know'st not of the time
The Lord will come with mighty power,
Whether at day's unsullied prime,
At early dawn, or midnight hour.

EVENING:

Am I disquieted about my future welfare?—(Matt. vi. 33.)

Live for to-day; to-morrow's light
To-morrow's cares shall bring to sight;
Go, sleep like closing flowers at night,
And Heaven thy morn will bless.

MORNING:

"In all things willing to live honestly."-Heb. xiii. 18.

Let those who bear the Christian name
Their holy vows fulfil;

The saints, the followers of the Lamb,
Are men of honour still.

NOON :

"The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul." Prov. xvi. 17.

The trivial round, the common task,
Will furnish all we ought to ask,
Room to deny ourselves, a road
To bring us daily nearer God.

[blocks in formation]

Am I contented with my present lot? (1 Tim. vi. 8.)

Not mine, not mine the choice,
In things or great or small;
Be Thou my Guide, my Strength,
My Wisdom, and my All.
