GENERAL ORDER.

On motion of Mr. Williams,

The Senate went into committee of the whole, on the general

order,

Mr. A. Smith in the chair.

After some time spent therein, the committee rose, and through the chairman, made the following report:

The committee of the whole have had under consideration the following bill:

1. Senate bill No. 26, entitled

A bill to prevent the destruction of muskrats and muskrat houses in the marsh, on the shore of Lake Erie, in front of the city of Monroe;

Have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that it be recommitted to the committee on State affairs.

The committee of the whole have also had under consideration the following bill:

2. Senate bill No. 32, entitled

A bill to amend act No. 147, of session laws of 1865, being an act entitled "An act to amend section 17, of chapter 67, being section 1961 of the compiled laws, relative to the rates of fare on short railroads;"

Have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, without amendment, and recommend its passage.

The committee of the whole have also had under consideration the following bill:

3. Senate bill No. 34, entitled

A bill to create a soldiers' aid fund for disabled Michigan soldiers, sailors and marines, and Michigan men, who have served in the late war in other State organizations, or in the forces of the United States;

Have made sundry amendments thereto, and have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, asking concurrence therein, and recommend its passage.

The second named bill was placed on the order of third reading.

The Senate concurred in the amendments made to the ast named bill by the committee, and the bill was placed on the order of third reading.

SIR-I am instructed by the House to return to the Senate the following entitled bills:

1. Senate manuscript bill, entitled

A bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the township of Orleans, in Ionia county, for the year 1868;

2. Senate manuscript bill, entitled

A bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the several wards in the city of Detroit, in the county of Wayne; 3. Senate manuscript bill, entitled

A bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the township of Lockport, in the county of St. Joseph;

4. Senate manuscript bill, entitled

A bill to legalize the tax roll of the township of LaSalle, in the county of Monroe, for the year 1868;

In the passage of which the House has concurred by a majority vote of all the members elect, and has ordered the same to take immediate effect by a vote of two-thirds of all the members elect.

The Senate was called to order by the President, at 10 o'clock A. M.

Roll called: a quorum present.

The President announced the following:

To the Honorable Members of the Senate:

The undersigned, in behalf of the State University, desires to announce that the committee on public instruction, of the Senate, and the committee on education, of the House, propose to visit the University on Tuesday, February 2d, and that any members of the Senate visiting the University on that day will be at no expense for fare over the railroads, either from Lansing and back, or from Detroit to Ann Arbor, and from thence to Lansing. If the fare is paid, arrangements will be made by which it shall be repaid.

Also, inasmuch as it may be inconvenient for many to come to Ann Arbor on that day, if the Legislature will fix any subsequent day on which they, in a body, will visit the University, arrangements will be made whereby they can go to Ann Arbor from Lansing, and back without fare.

LANSING, Feb. 28, 1869.

HON. MORGAN BATES, Prest. of the Senate:

SI-I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of the

following resolution of the 16th inst.:

"Resolved, That the treasurer of the Agricultural College be required to furnish information to the Senate of the State of Michigan, of the amount of moneys received from the sale of the products of the Agricultural Farm, from fines and penalties imposed, and from all other sources, except State appropriations, from the foundation of said College up to and including the year 1868."

In compliance with which, I herewith transmit the accompanying table.
