A NEW TREASURE

FOR THINKING PEOPLE

Journal of Education, Boston, Mass.: "This is a treasure. No one can conceive the wealth of information, the convenience for reference, the elimination of non-essentials which make this book worth much more than the price to any student, teacher, or writer. '

THE STUDENTS' STANDARD DICTIONARY

Compiled by a large corps of experienced lexicographers under direction of JAMES C. FERNALD, Editor; FRANCIS A. MARCH, LL.D., Consulting Editor : :::: : ::: "It will prove to be the best student's dictionary of the English language in existence."-William Hayes Ward, D.D., Editor of the New York Independent.

Of Unapproached Value for the Home, Class-room, Office, or Study

New from cover to cover with numerous exclusive features, besides being the most ample, comprehensive, accurate, and authoritative academic dictionary in existence. It is the work throughout of specialists, the aim having been to produce a modern and convenient handbook of dictionary information covering all departments of human knowledge. Its vocabulary and appendix features have never been approached by any other similar work, while the type, paper, and binding are all of the highest quality. SUPERIORITY PROVED BY COMPARISON

You would be gratified to see how the "5c. Classics" delight my little pupils. They deserve to be, and are the most popular children's books of which I have any knowledge.

See list on page 334.

There is no reason why you cannot meet with just as good success, if you will try our method, as follows:

The "Hawthorne Library Certificates," which we send you (FREE,) are to be placed in the hands of your pupils, each one acting as a representative in obtaining subscriptions for his school library. Some pupils will dispose of only two or three, while others will sell as many as ten or fifteen shares.

The subscriber is given a certificate of his subscription and his name is written in the blank space for that purpose, and the certificate is then signed by the pupil.

This work has a good effect on the pupil, making him feel that he is an important factor in securing a library for his school, thereby stimulating his interest in the matter.

Outlines are provided for language work. Maps of corresponding divisions are drawn upon a uniform scale to convey correct ideas of comparative areas. The illustrations are numerous, helpful and appropriate. The series as a whole is the first successful embodiment of the new methods of geographical study. The books can be used by any teacher, in any school, to secure the best results.
