May the Cross of Christ direct me,
May His mighty Death protect me,

May He nourish me with grace;
To my parting soul be given
Entrance at the gate of Heaven,
And in Paradise a place.

Pange Lingua gloriosi Corporis
mysterium.

Maundy Thursday, Processional Hymn.

Now

OW, my tongue, the mystery telling

Of the glorious Body, sing,

And the Blood, all price excelling, Which the Gentiles' Lord and King,

In a Virgin's womb once dwelling, Shed for this world's ransoming!

Given for us, and condescending
To be born for us below,

He with men in converse blending,
Dwelt, the seed of truth to sow,
Till He closed with wondrous ending
His most patient life of woe.

That last night, at supper lying,

Mid the Twelve, His chosen band, Jesus, with the law complying,

Keeps the Feast its Rites demand; Then, more precious food supplying, Gives Himself with His own hand.

Word-made-Flesh, true bread He maketh

By His word His Flesh to be; Wine His Blood; which whoso taketh Must from carnal thoughts be free:

Faith alone, though sight forsaketh,
Shows true hearts the mystery.

TH

Tantum ergo.

"HEREFORE we, before Him bending,

This great Sacrament revere; Types and shadows have their ending, For the newer Rite is here; Faith, our outward sense befriending, Makes our inward vision clear.

Glory let us give, and blessing

To the Father and the Son, Honor, might, and praise addressing, While eternal ages run: Ever, too, His love confessing, Who from Both, with Both is One. Amen.

MASS HYMNS

I

HE Sacrifice of bitter pain

ΤΗ

Which on the Cross was made,

Free from all pain and suffering now, Is on the Altar laid.

Christ's own true Body and His Blood,
A Sacrifice Divine,

Are offered here by mortal hand
'Neath forms of Bread and Wine.
We offer, Lord, this Sacrifice,
To praise Thee and adore;

To thank Thee for Thy gracious gifts,
Thy mercy to implore.

We pray for living and for dead,
For all who worship here.
Grant us, O Lord, for Jesus' sake,
The grace to persevere.

Before Thy Throne, blest Trinity,
Our Saviour's death we plead,
That Thou wilt of Thy mercy's sake
Supply our every need. Amen.

SHALL

II

HALL we not love thee, Mother dear,

Whom Jesus loves so well?

And, to His glory, year by year,

Thy joy and honour tell?

Bound with the curse of sin and shame

We helpless sinners lay,

Until in tender love He came

To bear the curse away.

And thee He chose from whom to take

True flesh His Flesh to be;

In it to suffer for our sake,

By it to make us free.

Thy Babe He lay upon thy breast,
To thee He cried for food;
Thy gentle nursing soothed to rest
Th' Incarnate Son of God.

O wondrous depth of grace Divine
That He should bend so low!
And Mary, oh, what joy 'twas thine
In His dear love to know;

Joy to be Mother of the Lord,
And thine the truer bliss,

In ev'ry thought, and deed, and word
To be for ever His.

And as He loves thee, Mother dear,
We too will love thee well;
And, to His glory, year by year,
Thy joy and honour tell.

Jesu, the Virgin's Holy Son,

We praise Thee and adore,

Who art with God the Father One

And Spirit evermore.

III

Amen.

WE offer gifts of Bread and Wine,

To Thee, O God, Most High,

And pray Thee that Thy Holy Ghost
May bless and sanctify,

And make this offered Bread to be
The Body of the Lord;

The Wine within the Sacred Cup
To be the Blood adored.

With humble mind and contrite heart
We come before Thy face;
Let Mary and the Saints on high
Implore for us Thy grace.

So shall Thy Holy Church on earth
With every grace be blest,

And so shall all the faithful dead
Obtain eternal rest.

IV

Amen.

HRIST Jesus is coming
In Love from His Throne,

Christ Jesus is coming
To visit His own.

The Angels attending
Encompass their King,
Who now is descending
His mercy to bring.
Blest be He that cometh
In Name of the Lord,
Our Brother and Ransom,
Our Food and Reward.

Here when Thou art nighest,
We bend on the knee,
And sing in the highest

Hosanna to Thee. Amen.

V

SAVING Victim, opening wide The gate of heaven to man below, Our foes press on from every side, Thine aid supply, Thy strength be

stow.
