ysis of this Poem, which has been often said to be was sketched by the late Mr. Scott, of Amwell:

Now fades the glimme

raphically describes the process of a calm evening, troduces himself wandering near a Country Churchthe sight of the place, he takes occasion, by a few mple, but important circumstances, to characterize easant; and observes, that it need not be disdained r grandeur, whose most distinguished superiorities nate in the grave. He then proceeds to intimate, t from any natural inequality of abilities, but from red advantages, as riches, knowledge, &c. that the whose place of interment he was surveying, did not most celebrated of their cotemporaries. The same however, which obstructed their course to greatness, precluded their progress in vice; and, consequently, lost in one respect was gained in the other. From he not unnaturally proceeds to remark on that unigard to the deceased, which produces, even for these rs a commemoration of their past existence. Then ention to himself, he indulges the idea of his being d in the same manner, and introduces an Epitaph oses to be employed on the occasion."
