MEMORIAL

OF THE LIFE, CHARACTER AND PUBLIC SERVICES OF

STANLEY W. MERRELL.

To the Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme Court of Ohio:

Your Committee appointed to prepare a Memorial of the Honorable Stanley W. Merrell, lately deceased, submits the following:

Judge Merrell died at his home in Cincinnati on the 13th day of February, 1921.

He was but forty-four years of age, yet his ability and capacity were such that he had been the recipient of the mark of public favor and had attained a distinction in his profession that would have amply satisfied the ambition of one who had lived this life to its utmost lengthened span.

Stanley W. Merrell was born on Mt. Hope Road, Price Hill, in the City of Cincinnati, December 26, 1876. He was the son of George and Cornelia Spear Merrell, and a grandson of William Stanley Merrell, the founder of the William S. Merrell Company, one of the oldest firms of manufacturing pharmacists in the west. The subject of this Memorial was named for his grandfather who came to Cincinnati over a hundred years ago making the journey from Connecticut to Pittsburg on horseback, thence down the Ohio River on a flat boat to Cincinnati. It will be thus seen that he was the sturdiest of pioneer stock. Judge Merrell was (xliii)
