for your entertainment at the Michigan Union and elsewhere during your stay. It gives me pleasure to say that some alumni of the University have provided the funds which make it possible for us to invite you to come without any expense to yourselves, to the State, or to the University.

It seems very fitting that the members of the Legislature should have an opportunity at this time to see at first hand the University and its work. Of course, it is unnecessary to say that the University in presenting its requests to your Honorable Body is only endeavoring faithfully to perform its duty and to set forth the actual needs of the institution. The decision, on these requests, and the responsibility

for the decision, are wholly yours.

It would be desirable that the visit should be on others days of the week than Saturday or Sunday. It had occurred to us that the Legislature might leave Lansing on a Thursday afternoon, spending Thursday evening and all day Friday at the University, and possibly Friday night and Saturday, for those for whom it is convenient.

Awaiting your acceptance and with pleasant anticipations of the visit, believe me, Respectfully yours,

M. L. BURTON.

Mr. Glaspie moved that the Senate accept the invitation of the University and that a committee of three Senators be appointed to make arrangements for the trip.

The question being on the motion of Senator Glaspie,
Mr. Eldred demanded a division of the question.

The President thereupon put the question on the proposition "that a committee of three Senators be appointed to make arrangements for the trip."

The motion prevailed.

The question then being on the proposition "that the Senate accept the invitation of the University",

Mr. Penney demanded the yeas and nays.

The roll was called and the Senators voted as follows:
