The motion prevailed, the time being 2:15 o'clock p. m. Accordingly, the President declared the Senate adjourned until tomorrow, Thursday, January 11, 1923, at 2:00 o'clock p. m.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment and was called to order by the President.

Religious exercises were conducted by Rev. O. M. Albig, pastor of the Evangelical Association of Lansing.

The roll of the Senate was called by the Secretary.

Present: Senators Atwood, Bahorski, Bohn, Brower, Bernie L. Case, William L. Case, Condon, Connelly, Gansser, Gettel, Glaspie, Henry, Hunter, Karcher, Leland, Osborn, Pearson, Penney, Sligh, Truettner, Whiteley, Wilcox, Wood, Young-24; a quorum.

Absent with leave:

Senators Eldred and Riopelle-2.

Absent without leave: Senators Hayes, Horton, Johnson, MacNaughton, Ross and Smith-6.

On motion of Mr. Whiteley, the Committee on Michigan Agricultural College, composed of Senators Horton, Ross and MacNaughton, was excused from today's session.

Mr. Whiteley moved that the other absentees without leave be excused from today's session.

A bill to make appropriations for the Michigan State Normal College for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1924, and June 30, 1925, for maintenance, operation and other purposes.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, and referred to the Committee on Normal Schools.

Mr. Glaspie also introduced

Senate bill No. 19, entitled

A bill to make appropriations for the Pontiac State Hospital for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1924, and June 30, 1925, for maintenance, operation and other

purposes.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, and referred to the Committee on State Hospitals.

Mr. Glaspie also introduced

Senate bill No. 20, entitled

A bill to provide for the preservation of the aboriginal and other antiquities, mounds, earthworks, ancient forts, graves, mines, etc., in the State of Michigan. The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the Committee on Conservation.

Mr. Osborn introduced

Senate bill No. 21. entitled

A bill to make appropriations for the Kalamazoo State Hospital for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1924, and June 30, 1925, for maintenance, operation and

other purposes.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, and referred to the Committee on State Hospitals.

A bill to make appropriations for the Western State Normal School for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1924, and June 30, 1925, for maintenance, operation and other purposes.

Mr. Bohn introduced

Senate bill No. 23, entitled

A bill to make appropriations for Newberry State Hospital for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1924, and June 30, 1925, for maintenance, operation and other purposes.

Mr. William L. Case introduced

Senate bill No. 24, entitled

A bill to make appropriations for the Traverse City State Hospital for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1924, and June 30, 1925, for maintenance, operation and other purposes.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, and referred to the Committee on State Hospitals.

Mr. Wood introduced

Senate bill No. 25, entitled

A bill to amend section 18 of Act No. 475 of the Local Acts of 1903, entitled "An act to establish and provide justices' courts in the City of Detroit, and to repeal Act No. 426 of the Local Acts of 1901, approved May 13, 1901," approved May 20, 1903.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, ordered printed, and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Wood also introduced

Senate bill No. 26, entitled

A bill to amend section 1 of Act No. 271 of the Public Acts of 1919, entitled "An act to punish the giving of checks, drafts or orders on any bank or other depository, wherein the person so giving such check or draft, shall not have sufficient funds or credit for the payment of the same," approved May 13, 1919. The bill was read a first and second time by its title, ordered printed, and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Bernie L. Case introduced

Senate bill No. 27, entitled

A bill to repeal section 15 of chapter 9 of Act No. 254 of the Public Acts of 1897, entitled "An act to provide for the construction and maintenance of drains, and the assessment and collection of taxes therefor, and to repeal all other laws relative thereto," being section 4964 of the Compiled Laws of 1915, as last amended by Act No. 292 of the Public Acts of 1921.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, ordered printed, and referred to the Committee on Drainage.

Motions and Resolutions.

Mr. Condon offered the following concurrent resolution:

Senate concurrent resolution No. 5.

Providing for adjournment of the Legislature for more than three days.

Resolved by the Senate (The House of Representatives concurring), That when the Legislature adjourns today it stand adjourned until Tuesday, January 16, at four o'clock p. m.

Pending the order that, under rule 59, the concurrent resolution lie over one day.

Mr. Condon moved that rule 59 be suspended.

The motion prevailed.

The concurrent resolution was then considered and agreed to.

Mr. Brower offered the following:

Senate resolution No. 18.

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be and is hereby requested to furnish the Senate with three additional copies of the Compiled Laws of 1915, the Public Acts of 1917, 1919, and 1921, and the Michigan Manual of 1921.

The resolution was adopted.

Mr. Henry offered the following:

Senate resolution No. 19.

Resolved, That the President of the Senate be and is hereby authorized to appoint Marion Treleaven and Elizabeth Shaw as Committee Clerks, and Ella Craig as Janitress.

The resolution was adopted.

The President thereupon announced the appointment of the above named persons to the positions named.

Message from the House.

A message was received from the House of Representatives informing the Senate that the House had concurred in the adoption of

Senate concurrent resolution No. 5,

A concurrent resolution providing for adjournment for more than three days. The concurrent resolution was referred to the Secretary for record.

Leaves of Absence.

On motion of Mr. Osborn, the Committee on Conservation, composed of Senators Osborn, Penney, Pearson, Smith, Gettel, Glaspie, Bernie L. Case, Truettner and Bohn, was granted indefinite leave of absence.

Senators Wilcox, Gettel and Young, members of the Committee on College of Mines, were granted indefinite leave of absence, to permit their visit to that institution.

Mr. Penney moved that the Senate adjourn.

The motion prevailed, the time being 2:22 o'clock p. m.

Accordingly, and in pursuance of the provisions of Senate concurrent resolution No. 5, the President declared the Senate adjourned until Tuesday, January 16, at 4:00 o'clock p. m.
