Mr. Atwood introduced Senate bill No. 66, entitled A bill imposing a State tax on gasoline and on all other liquids containing any derivative of petroleum or natural gas, produced, prepared or compounded or usable for the purpose of generating power by means of internal combustion except kerosene oil and sold in this State, except for the purpose of resale; providing for the collection of such tax and for the distribution and use of the revenues derived therefrom; making an appropriation, and fixing penalties. Mr. Brower introduced Senate bill No. 69, entitled A bill to amend sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 of chapter 4, part 1 of Act No. 256 of the Public Acts of 1917, entitled "An act to revise, consolidate and classify the laws of the State of Michigan relating to the insurance and surety business; to regulate the incorporation of domestic insurance and surety companies and associations and the admission of foreign companies; and to provide for the departmental supervision and regulation of the insurance and surety business within this State," and to add a new section thereto to stand as section 4-a. The following entitled bill was read a third time: Senate bill No. 12 (file No. 11), entitled: A bill to amend section 1 of Act No. 213 of the Public Acts of 1915, entitled "An act to provide for a presiding circuit judge and for the manner of his selection, to prescribe his powers and duties and to defray the expenses incident thereto," being section 14546 of the Compiled Laws of 1915. The question being on the passage of the bill, the roll was called and the Senators voted as follows: So, a majority of all the Senators-elect having voted therefor, The bill was passed. The Senate agreed to the title of the bill. Motions and Resolutions. Mr. Wood offered the following resolution: Resolved, That the chief proof-reader shall be the printing clerk of the Senate and the clerk of the committee on Finance and Appropriations shall be the appropriations clerk of the Senate; and that, during the present regular session of the Legislature, the said printing clerk and the appropriations clerk shall each receive compensation, from and including January 24, at the rate of seven dollars per diem, to be computed and paid as is the compensation of other Senate employees The resolution was adopted. Mr. Connelly offered the following concurrent resolution: Senate concurrent resolution No. 7. Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That when the Legislature adjourns on Thursday, January 25, it stand adjourned until Tuesday, January 30, at 4:00 o'clock p. m. Pending the order that, under rule 59, the concurrent resolution lie over one day, Mr. Connelly moved that rule 59 be suspended. The motion prevailed. The concurrent resolution was then considered and adopted. General Orders. Mr. Wood moved that the Senate resolve itself into Committee of the Whole for consideration of the general orders. The motion prevailed and the President designated Mr. Wood as chairman. Accordingly the Senate resolved itself into Committee of the Whole, with Mr. Wood in the chair.
