REVENUE LAWS. Acts relating to the Customs passed at the 1st and 2nd Sessions of the 22nd

Congress. An ACT concerning 'Tonnage duty on Spanish Vessels. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of Arnerica in Congress assenbled, Thai no other or gener duty of tonnage be levied in the posts of the United States on vessels owned wholly by sub

jects of Spain, coming from a port in Spain, than sholl, by the Secretary of fibe Tre.sury be ascertained to have been paid... American ressels in the por's of Sprin previous to the twentieth of October, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That vessels owned wholly by Spanish subj cis, coming from any of the colonies of Spain, either directly or after touching at any other port or place, shall pay, in the ports of the United Suate, the same rate of duty on tonnage that shall be levied on American vessels in the Sp:nish colonial port from whence such Spanish vessels shall have last di parted; the said amoun to be ascertained by ihe Secret iry of the Treasury, who is bereliy authorized, from time to time, 1o give directions to the officers of the customis of the United Siates for the collection of such duties, so as to conform the said duties to any variation that may take place in the duties levied on American vessels in such Spanish orts.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That wlienever the President shall be satisfied that the discriminating or countervailing dwies of tonnage levied by any foreign nation on tlie ships or vessels of the United States, shall bave been abolished, he may direct that ihe tonnage duty on the vessels of such nation shall cease to be levied in the poris of the United States; and cause any duties of tonnage that may have been levied on the vessels of such foreign naiion, subsequent in the abolition of its discrimina:ing duties of tonnage 10 be refunded.

Suc. 4. And he il further enacted, That the seeond and third sections of this act shall be in force and take effect from and after the first day of January next.

An ACT to alter and amend the several acts imposing duties on Imports. Be it enucted by the Senale and House of Representatives of the Unted States of America in Congress assembled, That from and after the third day of

March, one thousand eight hundred and thirty three, so much of the act enfritled “ An act in alteration of the ge eral acis imposing duties on imports,'' approved the nineteenib May, one housand eight bundred and twenty-eight as is herein otherwise provided for, shall be repealed, except so far as the same may be necessary for he recovery and collection of all duties which sh:ll have accrued under the said act; and for the recovery, collect 0.1, dis. tribution, and remission of all anes, penalties, and forfeitures, which may have been incurred under the same.

Suc. 2. And be it further enacted, That, from and after the third day of March, one thousand eight hundred and thirty three, in lieu ofihe duties now imposed by liw, on the importation of the articles hereinafter inentioned, there shal be levied, collecierl, and paid, the following duties, that is to say:

First : Wool, unmany factured, the value where i, at the place of expor. ration, shall not exceed eight cenis per pound, swall he imported free of duty; and if any wool so imported shall be fine wool mixed with dirt or other ma. ierial, and thus reduced in value 10 eight cents per pound, or under, the ap praisers shall appraise said wool at such price as in their opinion it would hard cost had it not been so mixed, and a duty thereon shall be charged in conformity with such appraisal; on wool, unmanufactured, the value where

Second. On all milled and fulled cloid, known by the names of plains, ker-eys, or kendal coitons, of which wool shall be the only waleriai, the virtue whereof shall not exceed thiriy-five cents a square yard, five per centum ad valorem ; on worsted stuff goods, shawls and other manufactures of silk and worsted, en per centua ad valorem; on worsted yarn, cueny per centum ad

alorem; on woollen yarn, four cenis per poupil, and fisiy percentum ad valorem; on mits, gloves, binilings, blankeis, nosiery, and carpeis and car. peting, twenty-five perierum, exceps Brussels, W lion and treble ingraineill

carpeting, which shall be at sixty-three cents the squ:: re yard, all other in. grained and Venetian carpeting, at thiriy-five crnis ine quara yorit; and except blankets, the value whereof, at the place from whence exponed, shall not exceed seventy-five ceuis each, the duty to be levied upon which, shall be five per centum ad valorem; on flannels, borkings, ami baizes, sisipen cents the square yard; on coach faces thirty-five per centum; and upon merino sa wis made of wool, all other manufactures of 100, or of which wool is a component part, and on ready made clothing, filly per centum ad

Third On all manufactures of cotion, or of which cotton shall be a component pari, kwenty-five percentum ad valorem, exrepting cotton i wisi, yarn, and thread, which shall remain at the rate of duty fixeally the act to anend the several acts imposing duties on impor s, ofiweniy-second May, one thousand right hundred and i wenty-four; And provided, That all manufaciures of cotion, or of which cotion shall be i component part, not dyed, colored, Frinter, or stained, not exceeding in value thirty cents the square vard, shali be va'ued at thirty cents per square yarıd, and if dyed, colored, printed, or sained, in whole or in part, not exceeding in value thirty-five cents the square vard, shall be valued at thirty-five cents per square yard; aud om nankeens, inported direct from China, twenty per centum ad valorem.

Fourth On ali stamped, printed or painted poor cloths, foriy-three cents a square vard; on oil cloths of all kinds, other than that usually denominated patent floor cloth, twelve and a half cells the square yard ; and on floor mat. ling, nisually made of fags and other materials, five per cennim ad va oren.

Fifth. On iron, in bars or bolis, not manufactured in whole or in part by rolling, ninety cents per one hundred and twelve pounds.

Sixth. On har and bolt iron, made wholly or in part by rolling, thirty doi. lars per 101: Provided, That all iron in slabe, blooms, or other form less finished than iron in bars or bolis, and more advanied than pig iron, except castings, shall be raied as iron in bars or bolts, and pay dury accordingly.

Seventh. On iron in pigs, filty cents per one hundied and twelve pounds : on vessels of cast iron, not otherwise specified, one and a half cents per pound; on all other castings of iron, not otherwise specified, one cent per pound.

Eighth. On iron or steel wire, not exceeding number fourteen, five cents per pound; esceeding number courteen, wine cents per pound; on silvireill or plated wire, five per centum ad valorem ; on cap or bonnet wire coverest with silk, cottun, flixen, yarn or thread, manufactured abroad, twelve conta lier pound

Ninth. On round iron or braizer's rods, of thiep-sixteenths to eight-sixteenths of an inch diameter, inclusive, and on iron in nail or spike rods, or nail plaies, sit, rolled, or hammered, and on iron in sleets, and hoop iron,

and on iron, slit, rolled, or hanimered for band iron, scroll iron, or casenieni rods, three cents per pound; on iron spikes, four cents per pound ; on iron nails, cut or wrought, five cents per pound; on tacks, brads, and sprigs, riol exceeding sixteen ounces to the thousand, five cents per thousand; excredo ing six teen ounces to thie thousand, five cents per pound; on square wire lused for the manufacture of stretchers for umbrellas, and cut i preras no
