DESCRIPTION OF THE PLATES.

PLATE I.

FIGURE 1.-WALKING DRESS.-Mousseline de laine redingote; the corsage made high up the neck, but open in front; the sleeve full in the middle, having a globular appearance, and ornamented in the upper part with a bouffant. The front of the skirt, as well as the lower part, is ornamented with a double application, ruched with a piping in the middle. The Capote of Satin is simply ornamented with a velvet band, and a small bouquet on one side.

FIGURE 2.-EVENING DRESS.-China silk dress; the corsage fabricated in a very similar manner to the preceding, with the exception of being draped in front and peaked; the sleeves short, with ribbon ornaments and lace edging. The rows of lace flounces serpentined round the lower part of the dress complete the effect. Lace lappets embellish the coiffure.

FIGURE 3.-EVENING DRESS.-Lace robe costume; the corsage made high in the neck, open in front, close-fitting, long and peaked; the sleeve short, having a bouillon ornament and sabot. A garland of flowers serve as elegant ornaments to the skirt. The hair is ornamented with a wide ribbon disposed in nœuds, with pendant ends.

FIGURE 4.-WALKING DRESS.-Satin dress; the corsage ornamented with a fall of the same, having a piped bordering placed in a zig-zag direction. The sleeve which is ornamented with a ruche in the upper part, is full to the wrist. The skirt is placed on rather full, a narrow flounce with dented edgings, as well as a deep one with a similar bordering complete the dress.

The bonnets of satin, velvet, crinoline and tuscan, are ornamented principally with bouquets. A velvet edging is added to one of the bonnets, as well as embellishments of the same. The prevalent shapes are brought down low on the face, many nearly meeting under the chin.

PLATE II.

FIGURE 1.-WALKING DRESS.-Satin redingote, with velvet lappel, turned over in front and buttoned, the ceinture fastened in front with a buckle. The sleeves are moderately wide. Four pipings are displayed down the front and round the bottom of the skirt, as well as the upper portion of the sleeve. The bonnet is quilted and wadded inside, and has lace trimmings.

FIGURE 2.-EVENING DRESS.-Indian muslin dress. The corsage made tolerably high, the sleeves moderately full, with a wide flounce. A black net fichu is thrown over the shoulders.

FIGURE 3.-Gros de Tour dress. The corsage elevated considerably on the neck, draped from the shoulders downwards, turned over in front with a dented velvet trimming, which extends down the entire front. The sleeves full and embellished at top with a lace sabot. Silk capote, with lace ornament and a bouquet.

FIGURE 4.-CARRIAGE DRESS.-High mounting corsage, with lace cannezou, old style of pattern, sleeves wide, with small bouillon at top. The dress having bouillons disposed down the dress a little on one side. Bonnet embellished with flowers. The first and second half figures are back representations of the figures immediately under them. The capote of satin has an elegant embellishment of lace, with a rose in the midst, and the drawn capote is worn almost plain.

Tulle caps with flowers.

PLATE III.

FIGURE 1.-WALKING DRESS.-Satin cloak, with velvet cape and border. It is made rather full in the back, the arm holes in the usual way. It offers nothing remarkable to particularize.

FIGURE 2.-WALKING DRESS.-A cachmere cloak, having double capes with velvet bordering, over the usual aperture and hanging pendant from the shoulder, as a full ample addition, which serves as a large wing. The bonnet of velvet has satin ribbon ornaments.

FIGURE 3.-CARRIAGE DRESS.-Levantine dress. Made high in the corsage, with lace pelerine, the sleeves ornamented with nœuds, and black net. A similar embellishment is placed in two rows from the ceinture to the hem, in two lines slightly serpentining and having ribbon nœuds at regular intervals. Bonnet ornamented with flowers.

FIGURE 4.-CONCERT DRESS.-Satin dress. The corsage draped from the shoulder to the ceinture; the upper part of the sleeve having bouffans, while the other part of the dress is in the paletot style, with fur trimmings. A double flounce with dented edging, traverses the lower part of the skirt. The first half figure is a plain silk dress, without any striking peculiarity, the second forms the back of the underneath figure.

Bonnets of velvet and satin, ornamented with lace, flowers, and feathers.

PLATE IV.

FIGURE 1.-WALKING DRESS.-French merino cloak, ornamented with plush, along the upper part, the openings for the arms, and down the middle of the front. Two flounces of a different material are placed at the bottom of the dress. The Hat of Gros de Naples, has a tulle edging and ribbon ties.

FIGURE 2.-PROmenade Dress.-Velvet mantel-pelisse, having wide sleeves, edged round with large silken cord, and having a cordelière of the same placed double round the waist, and tied in long ends. The dress, which is exhibited between the openings of the skirts, has a treble row of flounces. Crape bonnet with a bouquet.

FIGURE 3.-WALKING DRESS.-Satin dress; ornamented with a rich fall of lace down the front, and extending to the termination of the dress, which is embellished with a flounce laid on pretty full. The sleeves full, and round, with a sabot at the top. A demi-voile of lace completes the bonnet.

FIGURE 4.-EVENING DRESS.-The corsage moderately high, en cœur at top, the fur trimming is disposed in the manner of a tunic, it also embellishes the sleeves in such a manner, as to give the entire a unity of effect. The flounce is deep and full, and a rouleau is placed as a heading. The coiffure is ornamented with a ribbon

noeud and end.

The first half figure represents the back of the first cloak, The second half figure has trimmings of lace, disposed in two rows round the corsage.

The Bonnets are in velvet and satin, with bouquets and feathers. The crown of that on the right is placed on full and in rather broad gathers.
