TWINKLE, twinkle, little star ;

How I wonder what you are!

Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Then the traveller in the dark
Thanks you for your tiny spark:
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so.

In the dark blue sky you keep,

And often through my curtains peep;
For you never shut your eye,

Till the sun is in the sky.

As your bright and tiny spark
Lights the traveller in the dark,
Though I know not what you are,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

The other said nay;

The third said it was a house

With the chimney blown away.

And all the night they hunted,
And nothing could they find
But the moon a-gliding,
A-gliding with the wind.

One said it was the moon,

The other said nay;

The third said it was a cheese,
And half o't cut away.

THEN the snow is on the ground,

Little Robin Redbreast grieves;

For no berries can be found,

And on the trees there are no leaves.

The air is cold, the worms are hid;

For this poor bird what can be done? We'll strew him here some crumbs of bread,

And then he'll live till the snow is gone.

THEN a twister twisting would twist him a twist,

WHEN

For twisting a twist three twists he will twist; But if one of the twists untwists from the twist,

The twist untwisting untwists the twist.
