Joseph Royal, and the following persons who shall be the provisional officers and ex officio members of the Executive Council, namely: Hon. Chief Justice Wood, President, Wm. Cowan, M. D., 1st Vice-President, Alex. McArthur, 2nd Vice-President, Rev. Prof. Bryce, Corresponding-Secretary, Alex. Begg, RecordingSecretary, S. R. Parsons, Treasurer; and the said Executive Council and the said officers shall be the Executive Council and officers respectively of the said Society until an election of a new Executive Council and officers shall take place according to the constitution of the said society at the annual meeting of said Society to be held on the second Tuesday in February which will be in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty, and until their successors shall have been elected; and therefore, on the second Tuesday in February in each year, the annual meeting of the said Society shall be held, at which the annual election of the said Executive Council and officers respectively shall take place in accordance with the constitution of the said Society: Provided that the number of the Executive Council may, by amendment of its constitution made at an annual or general meeting called for that purpose, be increased or diminished, and provided further that the constitution of the said Society may in any respect be amended at any such meeting as aforesaid.

An Act to incorporate St. John's College Ladies'
School.

[Assented to 25th June, 1879.]

WHEREAS it has been represented to the Legislature of Manitoba, as the fact is, that the Right Reverend Robert Machray, Doctor of Divinity and Bishop of Rupert's Land, hath with the assistance of the Reverend Henry Wright, Honorary Secretary of the Church Missionary Society of England and others, acquired an elligible site in the City of Winnipeg, near St. John's College, and hath erected thereon a suitable and commodious building, and hath established a school therein for the education of young ladies, under the designation of "The St. John's College Ladies School," and the same is now in successful operation: And whereas the said school, according to its Foundation, is to be governed by a Board of Governors of which the Bishop of Rupert's Land is to be President, and the said the Reverend Henry Wright is, during his pleasure, to be Vice-President; and the residue of the said Board is to consist of twelve other members, of whom six are to be elected and chosen by the Council of St. John's College, of whom, however, the Professor of Exegetical Theology is, ex-officio, always to be one- and the remaining six members, by the Finance Committee of the Church Missionary Society of England: And whereas the Foundation of the said school and the Government thereof, on the principles aforesaid, have been approved and adopted by the Synod of the Diocese of Rupert's Land; And whereas the Founders of the said School have petitioned that the same may become incorporated, and it is expedient to grant the prayer of the said petition; therefore,

HER MASESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as fol

lows:

the school and other furniture, library and all other personal property and effects belonging thereto or therewith used, together with all funds, moneys, securities, debts or other assets or property held in trust or otherwise for the said "The St. John's College Ladies' School of Manitoba" by the Corporation of St. John's College or the Council thereof, or by any other person or persons whomsoever, and all other property, if any, both real and personal, of what kind soever and wheresoever the same may be or be held, shall from and after the passing of this Act, be and become the property of, and be and become absolutely vested in and possessed by the corporation hereby created, to and for the uses and purposes of the said "The St John's College Ladies' School of Manitoba."

VI. The said Corporation, in its corporate name or may receive otherwise, shall have power and authority to take, accept or receive to the use, and to and for the puruse of college. poses of the said Corporation, any and all lands, tenements and heriditaments-any and all property, movable and immovable, stocks, shares, bonds, debentures or securities for the payment of money, by pur chase, gift, devise, bequest or otherwise howsoever, and shall have and hold the same and every of them and every part thereof, to and for the use, and purpose of the said "The St. John's College Ladies' School of Manitoba;" provided always that the real property in this Province held and owned by the said Corporation, shall not at one time exceed in its annual value, the sum of five thousand dollars.

Provided also that the said College may acquire any other real estate or any interest therein by gift, demise or bequest, if made at least six months before the death of the party making the same, and the College may hold such estate for a period of not more than seven years and the same or any part or portion thereof or interest therein which may not within the said period have been alienated and disposed of shall revert to the party from whom the same was acquired, his heirs or other representatives: And provided also that the proceeds of such property as shall have been disposed of during the said period may be invested in the Public Securities of the Dominion of Canada or other approved securities for the use of the College, and the said Corporation shall further have the rights of ap

VII. It shall be lawful for the said Corporation, and Corporation it is hereby empowered, to sell, exchange, mortgage, land, ete hypothecate, or otherwise depart with or pledge any lands, tenements or hereditaments, or other real or personal property, stocks, shares, bonds, debentures or securities, of which it may, at the passing of this Act, or at any future time, become seized, possessed or in anywise interested in, by virtue of this Act, or howsoever otherwise and make and execute, under its common seal, or otherwise according to law, all proper deeds and instruments, and do all other Acts, matters and things requisite or necessary to effectuate and accomplish all and singular the premises: and the said Corporation shall stand seized and possessed of the real and personal property, securities or moneys, resulting from any transaction taking place under this section, to and for the uses and purposes of the said "The St. John's College Ladies' School of Manitoba."

VIII.
