The remarkable activity on the Stock Exchange during the year is clearly indicated by the record of total sales of securities, which shows an increase comparing with 1897 of 22,507,061 shares of listed stocks and of 13,710,975 shares unlisted, while the total sales of State and railroad bonds indicate an increase, par value, of $318,311,000. Transactions in bonds broke all records for the Exchange.
