culture and live stock. It is printed on fine book paper, neatly bound, wire stitched, and in appearance is equal to any magazine published in the country. The annual subscription to the Stockman is $1.00 per year, and no subscription is counted on its list unless a full dollar is paid for a whole year's subscription. the last year ending May 31, 1904, it gave cash premiums to the amount of $2,000 and the winner in this contest sent to the Stockman 2,923 yearly subscriptions from Sept. 1, 1903, to June 1, 1904. The Western Breeder's Journal and the Farmers' Magazine, of Omaha, have been consolidated and the two papers will be published hereafter under the name of the former. Darling & Co., Union Stock Yards, Chicago, are sending out a very complete catalogue of the poultry supplies including the various preparations of meats which they manufacture.

The Spokesman-Review, Spokane, Wash., is sending out a folder diagraming its growth, "step by step," each year being a step. The paper used is fine and the matter well arranged but the glaring red of the papers makes it rather painful to read, in a well-lighted room. However, an increase in circulation from 2,838 in 1896 to 32,937 for the first quarter of 1904 justifies the use of red paper of the most fiery color.

William Bancroft.

William Bancroft, general manager of the Associated Sunday Magazines, died a few days ago. Mr. Bancroft was for four or five years western representative for the Cosmopolitan Magazine, with offices in Chicago.

Col. J. H. Brigham.

Col. J. H. Brigham, assistant secretary of agriculture, died very suddenly at his home, Delta, Ohio, June 29. He was on his way from Washington to St. Louis to attend the meeting of the government board of which he was a member.

Col. Brigham served through the civil war, where he got his title. He was for several terms Master of the Ohio Grange. Patrons of Husbandry, and a prominent member of the Ohio Farmers' Union, organized by The Ohio Farmer to secure legislation in favor of the agricultural interests of the state. He was a leader among farmers and a successful practical farmer himself. A giant in stature and an eloquent speaker, he was much in demand as a lecturer. For several years he was much engaged in politics, always seeking to benefit the farmers of his state and the country.
