Mr. LOGAN nominated W. W. Moffett for county judge of Roanoke, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Judge Wingfield Griffin.

Ordered, That Mr. LOGAN inform the Senate that W. W. Moffett is the only person in nomination before the House.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr. WATTS, who informed the House that W. W. Moffett is the only person in nomination before the Senate.

W. W. Moffett having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected county judge of Roanoke to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Judge Wingfield Griffin.

A communication from the Senate by their clerk was read, as follows:

In Senate, January 3, 1894.

The Senate have passed House bill entitled an act to allow the late treasurer of Prince William county to collect by levy certain tax bills not returned delinquent, No. 41.

They have concurred in the amendments proposed by the House to Senate bill entitled an act to prohibit the taking of fish in the waters of Wythe county by means of seine nets, &c., No. 62.

They have passed Senate bill entitled an act to authorize the boards of trustees of Ruckersville and Monroe school districts of Greene county to contribute of their district funds towards the erection of a suitable school building in the Stanardsville (Central) school district of said county, No. 97.

And Senate bill entitled an act to validate and confirm all acts, contracts and proceedings under the charter of the Virginia trust company, heretofore styled the Virginia safe deposit and fidelity company, prior to the payment of the fee on its charter, with the same effect as if the said fee had been paid immediately upon the passage of the act of March 4, 1890, incorporating said company, No. 95.

In which bills they respectfully request the concurrence of the House.

No. 95, Senate bill, was read twice and, on motion of Mr. CRUMP, placed on the calendar.

No. 97, Senate bill, was read twice and referred to the Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns.

No. 62, House bill to make valid the deed to a certain lot of land in the county of Henrico, conveyed by A. J. Vaughan, surviving trustee of himself and George H. White, trustees for the society known as the Infant sons and daughters of love, A. J. Vaughan, president, and Henry Allen, secretary of said society, to James H. Barton, said deed being dated January 4, 1890, and recorded in the clerk's office of the county court of Henrico county in deed-book 129, page 53, reported from Committee for Courts of Justice, was read a first time.

No. 63, House bill to amend and re-enact sections 1 and 2 of an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact sections 1, 2, 3, 4,

7 and 10 of the charter of the Newport News light and water company, reported from the Committee on Propositions and Grievances, was read a first time.

The following House bills were, on motions severally made by Messrs. LOGAN and HARWOOD, placed on the calendar and read a second time:

No. 64, House bill for the protection of game in the county of Roanoke.

No. 65, House bill to amend and re-enact section 1 of an act approved January 26, 1892, entitled an act to incorporate the Richmond, Gayton and Southside railroad company.

Mr. NELSON offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the auditor of public accounts be requested to furnish to the Finance Committee of this House, as soon as practicable, a tabulated statement showing the amount of charter taxes or fees paid to the State by joint-stock corporations chartered by the courts of the State under section 1145 of the Code of 1887, between the 28th day of February, 1890, and the 16th day of February, 1892.

The House refused to refer the resolution to a committee.
The resolution was agreed to.

No. 95, Senate bill entitled an act to validate and confirm all acts, contracts and proceedings under the charter of the Virginia trust company, heretofore styled the Virginia safe deposit and fidelity company, prior to the payment of the fee on its charter, with the same effect as if the said fee had been paid immediately upon the passage of the act of March 4, 1890, incorporating said company, was read a third time and passed.

Mr. CRUMP moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill was passed; which motion was rejected.

On motion of Mr. SAUNDERS, the House adjourned until tomorrow at 12 o'clock M.
