A communication from the Senate by their clerk was read, as follows:

In Senate, February 15, 1894.

The Senate have passed House bills entitled an act for the relief of indigent persons suffering from disease of the eye, No. 90; and an act to place David Bradley, a disabled Confederate soldier, on pension list, No. 105.

They have passed Senate bill entitled an act to amend and reenact sections 2 and 3 of an act entitled an act to incorporate the town of New Hope, in Augusta county, approved February 6, 1890, acts 1889-'90, chapter 179, page 258, No. 376.

In which bill they respectfully request the concurrence of the House.

No. 376, Senate bill, was read twice, and, on motion of Mr. KOINER, placed on the calendar.

Senate concurrent resolution, as follows:

Whereas the general assembly of Maryland on the 12th of February, 1894, passed a joint resolution asking the general assembly of Virginia to appoint a committee to meet a similar committee appointed by the Maryland legislature, appointed for the purpose, to confer with a view to concurrent legislation as to the season of taking oysters within the States of Maryland and Virginia: now, therefore,

1. Resolved by the Senate (the House concurring), That a committee of two on the part of the Senate and three on the part of the House be appointed to meet a similar committee on the part

of Maryland to confer with a view to concurrent legislation within. the States of Maryland and Virginia.

2. The committees appointed shall make a report to their respective legislatures, now in session.

3. These joint resolutions shall be in force from their passageWas agreed to.

No. 259, Senate bill extending the time for commencing the construction of the Petersburg and Chesterfield railroad, and reenacting the act approved March 3, 1892.

No. 214, Senate bill to incorporate the Virginia Central and Western railroad company (with an amendment).

No. 345, Senate bill to authorize the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Richmond steamboat company to erect a wharf or wharves along its water front on the York river at Gloucester Point, in Gloucester county.

No. 236, Senate bill to incorporate the Peninsula gas-light, fuel and power company (with amendments).

No. 152, House bill to provide for the establishment and maintenance of State summer normal schools and to make an appropriation therefor, heretofore committed to the Committee on Finance, was reported back with an amendment.

No. 278, Senate bill entitled an act to amend sections 2477 and 2479 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to the lien of mechanics.

No. 106, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 2850 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to protest as evidence, with amendment.

No. 176, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 3102 of the Code of Virginia, in reference to the duties of the reporter of the supreme court of appeals, with amendment.

No. 227, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 3156 of the Code of Virginia, in reference to writs of venire facias.

No. 295, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 2965 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to whom attachments may be directed and where returnable, as amended by an act approved January 30, 1894.

No. 229, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 1406 of the Code of Virginia of 1887, in relation to the sale or encumbering of lands belonging to churches, &c.

No. 298, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 2940 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to warrants for

small claims, as amended and re-enacted by chapter 74 of the acts of assembly of 1889-'90, with amendments.

The following Senate bills were reported from the Committee on Finance:

No. 340, Senate bill entitled an act to repeal sections 406, 407 and 408 of the Code of Virginia, the latter section as amended and re-enacted by an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 408 of the Code of Virginia, in reference to proceedings to try genuineness of coupons, approved February 22, 1890, and also to repeal sections 409, 410, 411, 412, 414, 415, 536, 537, 538, 540, 541, 542 and 543 of the Code of Virginia, all of which sections relate to the proceedings to try the genuineness of coupons tendered for taxes.

No. 175, Senate bill entitled an act to authorize the county court of Norfolk county to take evidence, and, in its discretion, to correct an alleged erroneous assessment of the lands of William P. Clyde in said county, and the taxes assessed thereon, was ported with an amendment.

No. 519, House bill to empower and instruct the board of sinking fund commissioners to sell the State's interest in the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac railroad company, and to invest the proceeds of sale in Riddleberger or century bonds. No. 521, House bill for the relief of C. T. Lawson, a wounded Confederate soldier.

No. 522, House bill for the relief of Nat. Massie, of Nelson county.

No. 531, House bill to amend and re-enact sections 1756, 1757, 1758, 1759, 1760, 1761, 1762, 1763, 1764, 1765 and 1766 of chapter 78 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to the practice of pharmacy, as amended by an act approved May 6, 1887, entitled an act to amend and re-enact sections 6 and 12 of an act approved March 3, 1886, entitled an act to incorporate the Virginia pharmaceutical association, and to regulate the practice of pharmacy and to guard the sale of poisons in the State of Virginia.

No. 532, House bill relating to the removal of certain notices posted to warn trespassers.

No. 535, House bill to allow F. G. Mayhugh, late deputy treasurer of Fairfax county, additional time in which to distrain and levy for uncollected tax bills yet in his hands.

No. 536, House bill to authorize the trustees of the Reform church, near Lovettsville, to sell or exchange their parsonage, &c. No. 537, House bill to amend and re-enact section 6 of an act for the protection of sheep in Cedarville district, Warren county, by a tax upon dogs.

No. 539, House bill to incorporate Riverside cemetery, near Courtland, Southampton county.

No. 540, House bill to increase the salary of the county judge of Southampton county.

No. 541, House bill making it lawful to adopt marks of designation for saw-logs, piles, hewn timber or square timber, and for the protection of the owners thereof.

No. 542, House bill to amend and re-enact section 3725 of the Code of Virginia, as to obstructing or injuring canals, &c., how punished, reported from the Committee for Courts of Justice, was read a first time.

No. 332, House bill to amend and re-enact sections 3902 and 3904 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to how misdemeanors are punished, heretofore recommitted to the Committee for Courts of Justice, was reported back.

A bill to relieve the Washington county road board of expenses incurred under section 25 of chapter 357 of the acts of the general assembly of 1891-'92, approved February 25, 1892, introduced by Mr. KENDRICK and referred to the Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns, has been transferred to the Committee on Finance.

Mr. CLARK offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the auditor of public accounts furnish this House with information showing the number of attorneys-at-law in the State of Virginia who have obtained licenses to appear before committees of the general assembly to advocate or oppose measures, as provided in section 91, chapter 244 of the acts of 1889-'90, page 234.

The House refused to refer the resolution to a committee.
The resolution was agreed to.

Mr. HARWOOD offered the following concurrent resolution:

Resolved by the House (the Senate concurring), That the two houses will proceed this day, at 12:45 P. M., to the election of a judge of the law and equity court of the city of Richmond— Which was agreed to.

Ordered, That Mr. HARWOOD carry the resolution to the Senate and request their concurrence.
