SELECTIONS FOR CHANTING. 1. THE LORD'S PRAYER. OUR FATHER Who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil; For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, 2. 3. THE APOSTLES' CREED. I BELIEVE in GOD the FATHER Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in JESUS CHRIST his only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the HOLY GHOST, born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; [i. e. continued under the power of death] The third day he rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come To judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the HOLY GHOST; The holy catholic Church, The communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen. GLORIA PATRI. 1 BLESSED is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; 4 His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 5 The ungodly are not so: But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 6 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous: 7 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish. 2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; For unto thee will I pray. 3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look 4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness, Neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight; Thou hatest all workers of iniquity. 6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak falsehood: The Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. up. 7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy; And in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. 8 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness, because of mine enemies; Make thy way straight before my face. 9 Let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them. Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. 10 For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; 6. With favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield. PSALM VIII. 1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 7. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honor. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, Yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, And whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth! PSALM XIX. 1 THE heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament showeth his handiwork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 3 Their line is gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. 4 In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. 5 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. 6 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 7 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 8 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 9 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: Sweeter also than honey and the honey-comb. 10 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: And in keeping of them there is great reward. 11 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. |
