8. What did Pharaoh say concerning the magicians or wise men of Egypt? "That there was none that could declare the meaning of his dreams."

9. Who interpreted Pharaoh's dreams? Joseph.

10. What did Joseph say concerning God? "That he had shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do, because the thing is esta blished by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass."

IV. PRACTICAL ADDRESS.

Those that put their trust in God, shall never be disappointed; but those that put their trust in Man, will find as Joseph did, that they often forget to perform the promises they have made. Many children remember what they ought to forget, and forget what they ought to remember. Joseph waited two years, his patience is displayed in waiting as well as in suffering. It is a good thing when children remember their faults, when they remember them with real sorrow, and désire to repent of them and implore forgiveness of them. God will make you to remember the sins of

your

youth.

youth. Repentance includes confession of sin, a hatred of sin, and a turning from sin unto God. There must be real sorrow for sin, before we can hate it, or confess it, or turn from it. Let every one now think of their faults, let them try to remember how many sins they have committed against God. Let them remember what those faults

are of

which they are most guilty. What those sins are which they most frequently commit. What are their most easily besetting sins. Pray to God, and on your knees with tears implore the pardon of God, through Jesus Christ. God can and will pardon you, if you ask it for the sake of Christ.

Imitate the humility of Joseph, and give the praise and glory of all that you know to God. Let all know that you are a Christian, that you are not an unbeliever. Never be ashamed of your religion. Never be ashamed of Jesus. Ashamed of Jesus!

"Ashamed of Jesus, yes, you may,
"When you've no guilt to wash away,
"No tears to wipe, no good to crave,

"Ne fears to quell, no soul to save."

The

The Lord will bring to nought the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent. He will give wisdom to those who are despised, that the glory may be given to God alone. See what changes may take place in a short time. What a change in Joseph's condition! What a change both for the better and the worse was to take place in Egypt. Learn, my young friends, how to want, and how to abound. Magistrates are called shepherds, whose care it must be not only to rule, but to feed. Many are the blessings which God will give to those who fear him. Seek wisdom from him who is the fountain of wisdom. Amen.

A HYMN,

A HYMN.

Persevering Grace.

TO God the only wise,

Our Saviour and our King, Let all the saints below the skies Their humble praises bring.

'Tis his almighty love,

His counsel, and his care,
Preserves us safe from sin and death,
And ev'ry hurtful snare.

He will present our souls
Unblemish'd and complete,
Before the glory of his face,
With joys divinely great.

Then all the chosen seed

Shall meet around the throne, Shall bless the conduct of his grace. And make his wonders known,

To our Redeemer God

Wisdom and pow'r belongs

Immortal crowns of majesty,

And everlasting songs.

LECTURE

LECTURE XLIII.

JOSEPH MADE GOVERNOR OF EGYPT.

GEN. 41. 40.

Thou shalt be over my

house, and according to thy word shall all my people be ruled only in the throne will 1 be greater than thou.

SOLOMON was a wise man, His words

are words of truth, "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings: he shall not stand before mean men." Joseph was a man diligent in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. He was kind, he was humble, he was prudent, he was faithful to them whom he served, both to Potiphar and the keeper of the prison; he was kind and faithful to the Butler and the Baker, he was faithful to the king of Egypt. He gave a natural and simple explanation of Pharaoh's dreams. All who heard his interpretation must have been convinced of its truth. After

having interpreted Pharoah's dreams, he adds a few words of advice and counsel to the king. Let us therefore,
