Let us pray.

E humbly beseech thee, O Father, mercifully to look upon our infirmities; and, for the glory of thy name, turn from us all those evils that we most justly have deserved; and grant, that in all our troubles we may put our whole trust and confidence in thy mercy, and evermore serve thee in holiness and pureness of living, to thy honor and glory; through our only Mediator and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here may follow the General Thanksgiving, and the Prayer of St. Chrysostom.

BENEDICTION.

THE

HE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

A SELECTION OF PSALMS.

First Day, A. M.

PSALM I.

BLESSED is the man that walketh not in the counsel of

the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor

sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind doth drive away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

PSALM XCI.

E that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

PSALM IV.

EAR me when I call, O God of my righteousness; thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? How long will ye love vanity and seek after leasing?

But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call upon him.

Stand in awe, and sin not; commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still.

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

There be many that say, Who will show us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thon, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

PSALM XCII.

T is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praise unto thy name, O Most High:

To show forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy works; I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

The righteous shall flourish like the palm-tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

They that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

To show that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Third Day, A. M.

PSALM VIII.

JEHOVAH, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained;

What is man that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man that thou dost visit him?

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor.

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

O Jehovah, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

PSALM XCIII.

HE Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded the world also is established, that it cannot be

himself;

moved.

Thy throne is established of old; thou art from everlasting!

The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift up their waves!

The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

Thy testimonies are very sure; holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, forever.

Fourth Day, A.M.

PSALM XVI.

RESERVE me, O God; for in thee do I put my trust.

PRESER

O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord, my goodness extendeth not to thee;
