the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth;

I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

A bruiséd reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

Additional Selection for Easter or Christmas.

From Psalms and Isaiah.

LL the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord, and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee :

For the kingdom is the Lord's, and he is the Governor the nations.

Send forth thy light and thy truth, O Lord: let them lead us to thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacle, even unto God, our exceeding joy.

Thou wilt show us the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy at thy right hand there are pleasures for

evermore.

Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens, and thy faithfulness is above the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains: thy judgments are a great deep.

How excellent is thy loving-kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the blessing of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light, shall we see light.

Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever, and thy memorial throughout all generations.

We will bless the Lord from this time forth, and forever

more.

Whom have we in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that we desire beside thee.

THE Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord:

Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

For the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.

He will swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces;

And the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

¶ At Morning or Evening Prayer, this Collect may be read.

LMIGHTY God, who hast given us thy only begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and as at this time to be born of a pure virgin; grant that we may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee, world without end. Amen.

Good Friday.

¶ At Morning or Evening Prayer, these Collects may be read.

ALMIGHTY God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy

family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross, who now liveth and reigneth with thee, world without end. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body

of the church is governed and sanctified; receive our supplications and prayers, which we offer before thee for all estates of men in thy holy church, that every member of the same, in his vocation and ministry, may truly and godly serve thee; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

MERCIFUL God, who hast made all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made, nor desirest the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live; have mercy upon all Jews, Turks, Infidels, and Heretics; and take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of thy word; and so fetch them home, blessed Lord, to thy flock, that they may be saved among the

remnant of the true Israelites, and be made one fold under one Shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, world without end. Amen.

The Gospel St. John xix. 1.

HRIST our Passover is sacrificed for us; therefore let us keep the feast;

Not with the old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Cor. v. 7.

HRIST being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

For in that he died, he died unto sin once, but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. vi. 9.

CHRIST is risen from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them

that slept.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Cor. xv. 20.

THE COLLECT.

LMIGHTY God, who through thine only begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of ever- lasting life; we humbly beseech thee, that, as by thy special grace preventing us, thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, world without end. Amen.

RANT, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that like as we do believe thy only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens; so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend,

world without end. Amen.

The Table, at the Communion-time having a fair white linen cloth upon it, shall stand in the body of the Church, or in the Chancel. And the Minister, standing at the right side of the table, or where Morning and Evening Prayer are appointed to be said, shall say the Lord's Prayer and the Collect following.

UR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

THE COLLECT.

ALMIGHTY God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hid; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

¶ Then shall the Minister, turning to the people, rehearse distinctly the Ten Commandments; and the people shall, after every commandment, ask of God mercy for their transgressions for the time past, and grace to keep the law for the time to come, as followeth.

Minister.

OD spake these words, and said, I am the Lord thy God: thou shalt have none other gods but me.
