of the sanctuary thy heavenly blessing, that they may be clothed with righteousness; and that thy Word, spoken by their mouths may have such success, that it may never be spoken in vain. Grant also that we may have grace to hear and receive what they shall deliver out of thy most holy Word, or agreeably to the same, as the means of our salvation; that in all our words and deeds we may seek thy glory and the increase of thy kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LMIGHTY God, by whose will we were

created, and by whose providence we are sustained; by whose mercy we have been called to the knowledge of our Redeemer, and by whose grace whatever good we have thought or done has been inspired and directed; Help us to review our past lives with a spirit of thankfulness and submission, that in affliction we may remember how often we have been succoured, and in prosperity may know and confess from whose hand the blessing is received. Enable us to improve the time which thou shalt yet allow us, that

we may daily become purer in thy sight; and as we draw nearer and nearer to the grave, strengthen our faith, enliven our hope, increase our charity, and perfect our repentance; and so help us by thy Holy Spirit, that when it shall be thy pleasure to call us hence, we may be received to everlasting happiness, for the sake of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OCCA

OCCASIONAL PRAYERS.

Before the Communion.

RANT, we humbly beseech thee, O

GR

Lord, that so many of us as mind to come to the Holy Communion of the body and blood of our Saviour Christ, may have grace, diligently to try and examine ourselves, before we presume to eat of that Bread, and to drink of that Cup; that with a true penitent heart and lively faith, receiving that Holy Sacrament, we may indeed spiritually eat the Flesh of Christ and drink his Blood; may dwell in Christ and Christ in us; may be one with Christ and Christ with us. Preserve us from the guilt and danger of receiving the same unworthily, to our own condemnation, and the kindling of thy wrath against us. Enable us to judge ourselves, that we be not judged of the Lord: But repenting truly of our sins past; having a lively and stedfast faith in Christ our Saviour; amending our lives; and being in perfect charity with all men; may we be found meet

partakers of those Holy Mysteries. Grant this, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of our only Mediator and Advocate Jesus Christ. Amen.

After the Communion.

ALMIGHTY and Everlasting God, we

most heartily thank thee for that thou hast vouchsafed to feed us with spiritual food and sustenance, who have this day duly partaken the most comfortable Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ. Enable us contínually to keep in memory the exceeding great love of our Master and only Saviour Jesus Christ, thus dying for us; and henceforth, submitting ourselves wholly to his holy will and pleasure, may we study to serve him in true holiness and righteousness all the days of our life. Amen.

For a Sick Member of the Family.

FATHER of mercies and God of all comfort, we fly unto thee for succour in behalf of thy servant who is now grieved

with sickness. Sanctify, we beseech thee, this thy fatherly correction to him, that the sense of his weakness may add strength to his faith, and seriousness to his repentance. Grant that he may take his sickness patiently, and recover his bodily health, if it be thy gracious will. Consider his contrition, accept his tears, assuage his pain, as shall seem to thee most expedient for him. Give him grace so to take thy visitation, that he may lead the residue of his life in thy fear, and to thy glory; And after this painful life ended, may he dwell with thee in life everlasting, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

For a Sick Child.

LMIGHTY and immortal God, the aid

of all that need, the helper of all that

flee to thee for succour; We call upon thee for this infant, now lying under thy hand, upon the bed of sickness. Look upon Visit him,

him with the eyes of thy mercy.

O Lord, with thy salvation.

Deliver him in

thy good appointed time from bodily pain; raise him up again, if it shall be thy pleasure;
