or given permission to make extracts from their works. I have taken considerable pains to communicate with the Authors of Hymns in which any right of property could be supposed to exist : and I trust that the omission will be overlooked, should any such have been unintentionally inserted for which the writer's leave has not been obtained. Many beautiful and valued hymns have been necessarily omitted for want of room.

The labour of compilation will be amply repaid, if any find in this little volume a portion of that enjoyment and comfort which I have myself had in bringing together these songs of Zion, the perusal of which has often attuned my heart to praise.

HYMNS.

THE LAMB OF GOD WORSHIPPED BY ALL THE

CREATION.

"OME let us join our cheerful songs

Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,

But all their joys are one.
2 “Worthy the Lamb that died,” they cry,

“ To be exalted thus ;"
“Worthy the Lamb,” our lips reply,

“For He was slain for us. 3 Jesus is worthy to receive

Honour and power divine;
And blessings more than we can give,

Be, Lord, for ever Thine.
4 Let all that dwell above the sky,

And air, and earth, and seas,
Conspire to lift Thy glories high,

And speak Thine endless praise.

5 The whole creation join in one

To bless the sacred name
Of Him who sits upon the throne,
And to adore the Lamb.

Supported by His staff and rod,

My road is safe and pleasant too. 2 I travel through a desert wide,

Where many round me blindly stray ;
But He vouchsafes to be my guide,
And will not let me miss my way.

13 3 Though snares and dangers throng my path,

And earth and hell my course withstand ;
I triumph over all by faith,

Guarded by His Almighty hand. 4 The wilderness affords no food,

But God for my support prepares ;
Provides me every needful good,

And frees my soul from wants and cares. 5 With Him sweet converse I maintain,

Great as He is, I dare be free ;
I tell Him all my grief and pain,

And He reveals His love to me.
6 Some cordial from His word He brings,
Whene'er

my feeble spirit faints; At once my soul revives and sings, And yields no more to sad complaints.

I pity all that worldlings talk,

Of pleasures that will quickly end ;
Be this my choice, O Lord, to walk
With thee, my Guide, my Guard, my Friend.

Still by constant mercy fed,

Give me, Lord, my daily bread.
2 Day by day the promise reads,

Daily strength for daily needs ;
Cast foreboding fears away,

Take the manna of to-day.
3 Thou my daily task shall give ;

Day by day to Thee I'd live :
So 'shall added years fulfil,
Not my own--my Father's will.

With reverence and with fear;
Though dust and ashes in Thy sight,

We may, we must draw near.
2 We perish if we cease from prayer ;

Oh, grant us power to pray ;
And when to meet Thee we prepare,

Lord, meet us by the way.
3 Burdened with guilt, convinced of sin,

In weakness, want, and woe;
Fightings without, and fears within,
Lord, whither shall we go?
