THE School Managers' Series OF READING BOOKS ADAPTED TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NEW CODE EDITED BY THE REV. A. R. GRANT, M.A. RECTOR OF HITCHAM, AND HONORARY CANON OF ELY; LATE H.M. INSPECTOR GF LOCKWOOD & CO., 7, STATIONERS' HALL COURT LUDGATE HILL PREFATORY NOTE. THIS Standard should always be read with a map before the children, on which they should find the places named in the book. No complete geographical or statistical account of the colonies is given in these slight sketches. They are only an attempt to bring before the children some incidents that have actuaily occurred, in countries of which they will often hear, and which probably many of them may visit. THE SCHOOL MANAGERS' READING BOOKS. TO SCHOOL BOARDS, TEACHERS, &c. In compliance with a generally expressed wish, and with a desire to more thoroughly adapt "THE SCHOOL MANAGERS' SERIES OF READING BOOKS" to the requirements of the Revised Code and the new Elementary Schools, the Publishers have determined upon a re-arrangement of the Standards, which they hope will prove acceptable, as follows:-The original STANDARD I. is altered to "INTRODUCTORY PRIMER," STANDARD II. is altered to STANDARD I. A New SIXTH STANDARD is in Preparation. Though the heading of the pages of this volume is "SIXTH STANDARD,' the Publishers beg it may be considered to be STANDARD V., as stated in the Title-page. In future reprints the heading will be corrected. 98 Benares. India. Part Second. "Up the Country Lines addressed by Bishop Heber to his Wife |
