Senate bill No. 220 (file No. 157), entitled A bill to provide for the assessment, levy and collection of money tax for highway purposes, and for the expenditure thereof, and to define the powers and duties of township officers relative thereto, and to provide for the purchase of tools and machinery for highway purposes and the payment thereof, and to repeal chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the Compiled Laws of 1897, being sections 4072 to 4114 inclusive; also sections 4193 to 4197 inclusive; Also: House bill No. 372 (Senate file No. 161), entitled A bill to amend section 10 of chapter 11 of Act 243 of the Public Acts of 1881, entitled "An Act to revise and consolidate the laws relating to the establishment, opening, improvement and maintenance of highways and private roads, and the building, repairing and preservation of bridges within this State," approved June 8, 1897; Have made sundry amendments thereto, and have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, asking concurrence therein, and recommending their passage. Senate bill No. 32 (file No. 60), entitled A bill to amend sections 2, 7 and 9 of Act No. 115 of the Public Acts of 1893, entitled "An Act to provide for the government, management and control of the State Public School at Coldwater, and to repeal all Acts or parts of Acts inconsistent with this Act," as amended by Act No. 94 of the Public Acts of 1895, and Act No. 98 of the Public Acts of 1897, being sections 2022, 2027, and 2029 of Miller's Compiled Laws; Also: Senate bill No. 48 (file No. 170), entitled A bill to amend section 1 of Act No. 171 of the Public Acts of 1873, entitled "An Act establishing a State agency for the care of juvenile offenders," as amended by Act No. 57 of the Public Acts of 1895, being section 2260 of Miller's Compiled Laws; And have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that the same be laid on the table. The committee of the whole have also had under consideration the following: IV. Senate bill No. 179 (file No. 162), entitled A bill to provide for the inspection of manufacturing establishments, workshops, hotels and stores in this State; to provide for the regulation of such establishments, and the employment of women and children therein; to regulate the conduct of sweatshops, so called; to provide for the enforcement of the provisions of this Act; and to make an appropriation for the purpose of carrying out the same; And have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that the bill be referred to the Committee on Finance and Appropriations. Senate bill No. 125 (file No. 100), entitled A bill to regulate the sale of concentrated commercial feeding-stuffs; Was read a third time and passed, a majority of all the Senators elect voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows: The question being on agreeing to the title, Mr. Goodell moved to amend the title so as to read as follows: A bill to define what shall constitute concentrated commercial feeding stuffs; to regulate the sale thereof; to provide a penalty for violations of the provisions of this Act; and to make an appropriation for carrying out the same. The motion prevailed, and the title was so amended. The title, as amended, was then agreed to. Senate bill No. 40 (file No. 168), entitled A bill making appropriations for the State Asylum, Ionia, Michigan, for building and other special purposes, for the year ending June 30, 1901; Was read a third time and passed, a majority of all the Senators elect voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows: The title was agreed to.
