MESSAGES FROM THE GOVERNOR.

The following message from the Governor was received and read:

An Act to provide for the examination and licensing of barbers, and to regulate the management of barber shops;

House substitute for Senate bill No. 85, being

An Act to authorize and empower the county of Ontonagon to purchase or to make, have made and maintain a system of abstracts of title of all lands in said county; to make and sell abstracts of title and furnish information concerning the condition of titles and charge such fees therefor as the board of supervisors of said county shall from time to time determine; to employ some person to keep and maintain such system of abstracts, and to do all things necessary for the carrying on of a general abstract business of titles to lands in Ontonagon county; Also:

An act to fix the salary of the Chief of the Division of Vital Statistics in the Department of State;

An Act to revise and amend Act No. 426 of the Local Acts of 1869, approved April 3, 1869, entitled an Act to revise an Act entitled "An Act to incorporate the board of education of the City of East Saginaw," and the several Acts amendatory thereto, and to repeal all Acts and parts of Acts in conflict with this Act;

Senate bill No. 541 (file No. 205), being

An Act to amend article 2 of chapter 164 of the Compiled Laws of the State of Michigan of the year 1897, said chapter 164 being "An Act to revise the laws providing for the incorporation of railroad companies, and to regulate the running and management, and to fix the duties and liabilities of all railroads and other corporations owning or operating any railroad in this State," by adding a new section thereto, to stand as section 51;

An Act to amend section 101 of Act No. 121 of the Public Acts of 1895, relative to the competency of witnesses and examination of parties in certain cases, being compiler's section 10212 of the Compiled Laws of 1897;

An Act to amend sections 1 and 5 of Act No. 372 of the Local Acts of 1893, entitled "An Act to provide for placing on the retired list on reduced pay members of the metropolitan police force of the City of Detroit, who shall have become disabled or incapacitated while in active performance of official duty, and members of said force and persons in the employ of the police board of the City of Detroit who after 25 years of faithful continuous service shall have become permanently incapacitated from performing regular or active duty," as amended by Act No. 440 of the Local Acts of 1895, approved May 24, 1895;

Also:

Senate concurrent resolution authorizing and directing the Secretary of State to furnish the Compiled Laws of 1897 to members of the Legislature of 1901.
