WITH the present number we reach the close of the third volume of WAYMARKS IN THE WILDERNESS, and with it we also reach another occasion of acknowledging the grace of the Lord, in whose service these humble labors have been employed. The field of its usefulness has been gradually enlarging without any of the appliances by which the success of a periodical is usually sought; and, as we are very well aware, without any of the attractions which might be expected to win popular favor. All that it is, is due to the condescension of Him who has permitted us to bear testimony of His truth, and who has encouraged us from month to month with proofs that He has thereby been ministering some help and comfort to His own.

We have hoped from the beginning to be able to reduce the subscription within the means and habits of a greater number of readers. But as there is still little prospect of a speedy reduction of the cost of publishing, we can only reduce the annual subscription by diminishing the amount of matter printed in a year. From a variety of considerations, it is thought best to continue the numbers of the present size and cost, but to publish them quarterly instead of monthly. The numbers for the year forming one volume instead of two volumes as hitherto. The subscription price for the next year will, therefore, be ONE DOLLAR. Those who have pre-paid for the year according to the present terms will, if agreeable to them, be credited with the balance in their favor, as paying in advance for six quarters instead of six months.

The first number of the fourth volume will be issued (D.V.) on January 1, 1866, and the remaining three numbers of the volume on the first of April, July, and October, respectively.

In the mean time we ask the aid of our friends in an effort to increase the list of subscribers. Above all, we ask their prayers that we may be enabled to make WAYMARKS IN THE WILDERNESS a more efficient exponent of the great truths of the Christian FAITH, LIFE, and HOPE.
