Senate bill No. 390 (file No. 365), entitled

A bill to compel owners of private cemeteries in cities to keep the same enclosed with a suitable fence to prevent encroachment of live stock, and to provide that a portion of the moneys received from the sale of lots in such cemeteries shall be used for the care and maintenance of said cemeteries;

A bill to authorize guardians of mentally incompetent persons, spendthrifts, or habitual drunkards to convey lands in pursuance of contracts executed prior to the guardianship of such persons;

Senate bill No. 399 (file No. 374), entitled

A bill to amend sections 9, 14 and 17 of chapter 55 of the Revised Statutes of 1846, entitled "Of general provisions relative to corporations," the same being sections 8535, 8540 and 8543 of the Compiled Laws of 1897;

Has made no amendments thereto, and has directed its chairman to report the same back to the Senate, and recommend their passage.

The committee of the whole has also had under consideration the following:

Senate bill No. 242 (file No. 230), entitled

A bill to limit candidates' election expenses; to define, prevent and punish corrupt and illegal practices in nominations and elections; to secure and protect the purity of the ballot; to provide for furnishing information to the electors, and to provide the manner of conducting contests for nominations and elections in certain cases;

Also:

Senate bill No. 340 (file No. 347), entitled

A bill to amend section 6 of Act No. 205 of the Public Acts of 1887, entitled "An act to revise the laws authorizing the business of banking and to establish a banking department for the supervision of such business," and to add five new sections to said act to be known as sections 68, 69, 70, 71 and 72;

But not having gone through therewith, has directed its chairman to report progress thereon and asks leave to sit again for the further consideration of the bills.

The committee of the whole has also had under consideration the following:

Senate bill No. 306 (file No. 280), entitled

A bill to provide for the regulation and inspection of analyses and other tests of sugar beets, and to provide compensation for making such tests;

Has directed its chairman to report the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that the bill be made a special order for Tuesday, April 11.

The report was accepted.

The Senate concurred in the recommendation of the committee regarding the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh named bills in the report and the bills were placed on the order of third reading of bills.

The Senate granted the committee leave to sit again for the further consideration of the twelfth and thirteenth named bills in the report. The Senate concurred in the recommendation of the committee regarding the fourteenth named bill in the report and the bill was made a special order for Tuesday, April 11, following the special order previously fixed for that date.

Mr. Taylor moved that the rules be suspended and that the Senate return to the order of Third Reading of Bills.

The motion prevailed, two-thirds of the Senators present voting therefor.

A bill to permit the establishment of a disability and retirement fund for teachers in cities of eight thousand or over;

Was read a third time and passed, a majority of the Senators-elect voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows:

A bill to provide for the appointment of a commission of five citizens of the State of Michigan to make an investigation into the subject of farm colonies and to report their findings to the next session of the Legislature with recommendations regarding the establishment of a farm colony within the State of Michigan;

Was read a third time and passed, a majority of the Senators-elect voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows:

The title of the bill was agreed to.

Senate bill No. 379 (file No. 352), entitled

A bill to amend section 1 of chapter 165 of the Revised Statutes of 1846, entitled "Of trials in criminal cases," the same being section 11942 of the Compiled Laws of 1897;

Was read a third time and pending the taking of the vote on the pas sage thereof,

Mr. Cartier moved that the bill be laid on the table.
The motion prevailed.

Mr. Fowle moved that the Senate adjourn.

The motion prevailed, the time being 12:40 o'clock p. m.

The President declared the Senate adjourned until Monday, April 10, at 9 o'clock p. m.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment and was called to order by the President.

The roll of the Senate was called by the Secretary.

The following Senators were present:

The following Senator was absent with leave: Mr. Rosenkrans-1. The following Senators were absent without leave: Messrs. Snell and Vanderwerp 2.

Mr. Putney moved that the absentees without leave be excused from today's session.

The motion prevailed.
