A bill to provide for the support of certain dependents of those confined in the prisons and reformatories of the State of Michigan, and to provide a tax to meet the same;

A bill to amend sections 24, 26, 37 and 39 of Act No. 206 of the Public Acts of 1893, entitled "An act to provide for the assessment of property and the levy and collection of taxes thereon, and for the collection of taxes heretofore and hereafter levied, making such taxes a lien on the lands taxed, establishing and continuing such lien, providing for the sale and conveyance of lands delinquent for taxes, and for the inspection and disposition of lands bid off to the State and not redeemed or purchased, and to repeal Act No. 200 of the Public Acts of 1891, and all other acts and parts of acts in anywise contravening any of the provisions of this act," said sections being compiler's sections 3847, 3849, 3860 and 3862 of the Compiled Laws of 1897, said section 24 having been amended by Act No. 226 of the Public Acts of 1907;

But not having gone through therewith, has directed its chairman to report progress thereon and asks leave to sit again for the further consideration of the bills.

Senate bill No. 403 (file No. 378), entitled

A bill to compel the use of Michigan mined bituminous coal in all State institutions within this State;

Also:

Senate bill No. 246 (file No. 234), entitled

A bill to provide for the better enforcement of the laws relating to the assessment of personal property, increasing the powers of the Board of State Tax Commissioners, giving it the power to cause personal property omitted from regular assessment to be discovered; to employ expert assistants, and to retrospectively assess for taxation such omitted personal property; to cause the taxes and penalties due thereon to be collected; and to constitute an "omitted tax fund," and to provide for the payment of expenses incidental to the discovery of such omitted property of said fund, and repealing all acts inconsistent herewith;

And has directed its chairman to report the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that the bills be laid on the table.

The committee of the whole has also had under consideration the following:

House bill No. 471 (file No. 202), entitled

A bill to regulate the use of common or public drinking cups or other containers, and providing a penalty for the violation thereof;

Also:

House bill No. 358 (file No. 231), entitled

A bill to prevent unlawful discrimination in the sale of milk, cream and butter-fat, and to provide a punishment for the same;

Has directed its chairman to report the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that all after the enacting clause of each of the bills be stricken out.

The committee of the whole has also had under consideration the following:

House substitute for House bills Nos. 71, 72 and 73 (file No. 17), entitled

A bill to create a commission to examine, investigate and inquire into the several boards, commissions, institutions, and the departments and bureaus of the State, and to fix its powers and duties, and to make an appropriation to pay the expenses thereof, and to provide a tax there

for;

And has directed its chairman to report the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that the bill be re-referred to the Committee on State Affairs.

The Senate concurred in the recommendation of the committee re garding the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seven, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth named bills in the report and the bills were placed on the order of third reading of bills.
