The Senate met pursuant to adjournment and was called to order by the President.

The roll of the Senate was called by the Secretary.

The following Senators were present:

Petition No. 633. By Mr. Foster: Protest of O. H. Smith and 26 other citizens of Alcona county, against the passage of the bill proposing an amendment to the local option law by which breweries in dry counties will be permitted to manufacture and sell their products at wholesale.

House bill No. 544 (file No. 381), entitled

A bill to amend section 25 of chapter 3 of Act No. 164 of the Public Acts of 1881, entitled "An act to revise and consolidate the laws relating to public instruction and primary schools, and to repeal all statutes and acts contravening the provisions of this act," being section 4691 of the Compiled Laws of 1897;

With the recommendation that the bill pass.

MESSAGES FROM THE HOUSE.

The following message from the House was received and read:

To the President of the Senate:

House of Representatives,
April 17, 1911.

Sir: I am instructed by the House to return to the Senate the following bill:

Senate bill No. 122 (file No. 112), entitled

A bill making appropriations for the Michigan School for the Deaf for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1912, and June 30, 1913, and to provide a tax to meet the same;

And to inform the Senate that the House has amended the same as follows:

1. By striking out of line 1 of section 2 the word "fifteen" and inserting in lieu thereof the word "four."

2. By striking out of lines 5 and 6 of section 2 the words "for the erection and furnishing of an addition to the present cabinet shop, four thousand dollars."

3. By striking out of line 9 of section 2 the words "one thousand." 4. By striking out of lines 12 and 13 of section 2 the words "for installing, erecting and connecting a private water system, six thousand dollars."

5. By striking out of lines 2 and 3 of section 4 the words "one hundred" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "eighty-nine."

And that in the passage of the bill as thus amended the House has concurred.

Mr. Moriarty moved that the bill be laid on the table.

The following message from the House was also received and read:

A bill making appropriations for the State Tuberculosis Sanatorium for current expenses and for building and special purposes for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1912, and June 30, 1913, and to provide a tax to meet the same;

And to inform the Senate that the House has amended the same as follows:

1. By striking out of line 1 of section 2 the words, "thirty thousand nine hundred five," and inserting in lieu thereof the words "thirty-one thousand two hundred fifty-five."

2. By inserting in line 25 of section 2 after the word "dollars," the words "purchasing of piano, three hundred fifty-dollars."

3. By striking out of line 2 of section 4 the words, "five hundred eighty-nine" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "nine hundred thirtynine."

And that in the passage of the bill, as thus amended, the House has concurred.
