Thou Side-Wound of Jefus,

Thou'rt a Pearl's Cafket, Which I poffefs; yet nought for it was asked,

More worth than Worlds.

The Darkness realm.

Easy and safe, and undisturb'd: what do I?

I creep to you.

Out of the Tent.

At the End of human Need,

Be

His Eye-ftreaks,&c. Part. II. p.79.
Till in my Flesh I see
His Body bruis'd for me,
(Whereon fo ftedfaftly
We here truft and rely)
And clofe to Him can greet
The Prints in Hands and Feet..

In your Receffes

Find thousand Sinners,

Balm for their distresses,
And room enough.

hide

Deep, I fay, deep into the Side.
In time brings Jesu's faithful Art,
To th' Spirit's Houfe, our earthly
Part.

2. Who thinks in trance, that there
he lies,

Is not at all inclin'd to rife.
In brief, the Magnet of the Side
Draws beyond earth and heavens
wide.

3. When the Lamb vifibly appears, And the World feeks the Rocks with tears;

Then will the holy frear-pierc'd
Place

Beth Order-Star which him bewrays.
4. The Side's reviving Blood, does
cry

For Mercy everlastingly.
Thro' perspective in Cov'nant old:
Ifaiah did this Wound behold
"Unto the Rock-cleft lift your

Raife to Election's root,
In the Side's holy Cut!
Lamb, be thank'd and magnify'd
For that incifion in thy Side!
All Angels and Heav'n's hofts

revere,
What with complacence they see
there;

But foon muft hide their prying face
From this bright Ruby's dazzling

eye,

"And in that Gleft the Pit's hole fpy, "Whence, chofen People! ev'ry one Of you have been dug out and hewn."

6. John, the Lamb's Comrade, did it view, Both how and where it was pierc'd

thro'.

When he his Gospel juft begun,
Walking in his room up and down,
7. Th'Amanuenfis Thundring heard:
But when dear John himself prepar'd
His Record how the Side was hewn,
I fancy, he fell in a woon.

8. Th' Apoftles of the Lord did pry
Into the Side amazingly ;
Thomas hath special freedom found,
His hand did grope in it around.

9. One fees how he thereby was
ftruck,

Since O my Lord and God! forth broke.

Now cries the Church, the feeling Bride,

Glory be to the holy Side!

10. Altho' we honour ev'ry Wound, Feaft on the holy Corpfe all round; Yet, Jefu, in that Breast of thine, Thanks, shame, pain, love and joy combine.

11. When the new Work of God arose,

That th' Woman did the Man inclofe ;

Then God's tormented Martyr-Sheep Brought forth his chofen She in Sleep.

* Jer. xxxi. 22.

12. This are we Children fmall and

mean,

Who in ourselves are nought but Sin; But the Wounds-Rofes fragrancy Perfum'd us to a Sanctuary,

13. To be flesh of his Flesh and Bone,

And spirit, with his Spirit one.
So that his private Sighings each
Doth tow'rds that Womb maternal
ftretch.

14. And when Distress is at an end, One fays to God his dearest Friend,

L

What Right my Body to Earth has, 'Caufe from that Mother form'd it

was;

15. That Right can I poor needy Soul

Pretend much more to th' Side's dear hole,

Whence me new-bore my Maker good,

When Jefus hung upon the Wood. 16. Daily, O Lamb thy Church does fing,

Wishing to be quite near that Spring.
The Vine and Branches certainly
Together shall and ought to be.
17. That the Church does God's
Nature share,

From th' Side flows, and was founded there.

It 'bides, at leaft in this on,
The Point of our Religion.
18. Th' unutterable things which
Paul

Did fee, we've here concenter'd all.
To Him, whom creatures cannot fee,
One does keep here the Liturgy.
19. On this the Holy Ghoft does
touch

So earnestly, so oft, fo much,
That the whole Troop which follow
Christ, *

On it, as on their Home, infift.
* Rev. xiv. 3.

20. What wonder, that much with

this Theme

The prefent Ev'ning-Red doth gleam? The Brethren's Church is, by her call, Of th' holy Side a Filial.

383. Te Abba.

Herr Gott, dich loben wir.

ORD GOD! by us be bleft, The Spirit Abba fuggefts.

He who's the Church's God alone,
Loves to be worship'd of his own.
The Angels hoft, and all who raise
The Son Creator's glorious praife,
The Cherubim and Seraphs cloud,
Lift up their voice and fing aloud:
holy Father God!

Of th' God of Sabaoth

(Who is all the World's God)
And his dear People, God!

The Twelve, whom thy Son his did call,
Have known and nam'd Thee first of all:
The worthy Martyrs death endur'd,
Of thy Election well affur'd.

The four, who reft not Night nor Day,
As well to Thee due Honour pay,

As Him who's on the mount, the Lamb,
And Him who moves in fev'nfold Flame.
The four and twenty Elders cry
Abba! Abba! continually.

Thy divine Glory and thy pow'r

Shines thro' thy Son the world all o'er. Amen!

1. To love the World thou wert so bent,
That thy Heart yielded its confent,
To venture to Death's cruelties
Thy Son, the Pleasure of thy eyes;

2. That He all, who on him believe,
Might in thy Family receive.

But thou lefteft Him not alone,
No, Thou didst always help him on,
3. Till after Victory compleat,
Above all Heav'ns he took his Seat,
Attended by thofe Legions bright,
Whofe aid he chose not in his Fight.
4. And as he came to thy right Hand,
Thou took ft the Battle's fole Command. *
Thy Sword then drawn will still be bare,
Till all the Devils his Footstool are,

5. Till Hell's whole rage is put to shame,
And Death's at laft a cancell'd name,
With Flesh, World, Sin, wip'd out of mind,
Their place to endless Love refign'd.

6. Since now into the holy Place, By Blood the High Prieft enter'd has,

* 1 Cor. xv. 25.

t

Since he with honour takes repose,
From all his Toil and Crofs's throes;
And thy Arm works in wondrous wife
For his behoof, and those who're his :

7. Help us thy Warriors, Lord our God!
Who ftand befprinkled with his Blood;
The whole Salvation of thy Son,
And all his Conquefts, make our own.
8. Thy band of Angels to us fend,
Who always 'fore thy Face attend,
And who fuch willing Ministers
Are unto all Salvation's Heirs.

9. Let the Flock of thy Chrift be blefs'd,
Yea all who are by him confefs'd:
O tend and aid them ev'ry way,
And with a pow'rful Guard convey.

10. Daily, O Father! praifeth thee
Chrift Jefu's chofen Property,
That thou thy Bofom-Child haft laid
Bare in the bofom of a Maid;

11. That human Race came in thy mind,
When thy Son's Spoufals were defign'd;
That we're at the maternal Coft
Train'd up of thy own Holy Ghoft;

12. That thou Chrift and that Bride of his
Wilt join in nuptial Bond and Bliss.

384.

Selab.

The Church's Prayer to the Father of her Lord.

Der du in dein himmel bisk.

HOU whom thron'd in
Heav'n we know,

THO

Since thy only Son is,

Tho' Lord God, their Brother now;
Father of the Churches!

2. Were but now brought to thy

Name

Liturgy and Glory!

3. Let thy pow'rful Kingdom come,

4. As all Heav'n obeys thy Will
With deep adoration ;
So on Earth shall it fulfil

2 Tim. ii. 4.

For thro' Chrift that Worship came,
And is right before thee.
That Mankind do Homage
To the Lamb, who bore their Doom
In the Sinner's image.

The Lamb's Congregation.
