GOD, Who by the fruitful virginity

From the First Vespers of the Feast of the Holy Trinity until None of the Saturday before Advent.

Righteousness, Christ our God, Who having loosened the curse, hath given us the blessing, and overcoming death hath given unto us life everlasting.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God,

Who, by the co-operation of the Holy Ghost, didst wonderfully prepare the body and soul of the glorious Virgin Mother Mary to become a fit habitation for Thy Son: grant, that as we rejoice in her memory, we may by her fervent prayers be delivered from all the evils which threaten us, and from everlasting death. Then Lord, have mercy, with the rest as in Psalter, page 5. And in the Ferial Office the Antiphons shall be said of the preceding Sunday: the Little Chapters, Short RZR., and the rest as in the Psalter, p. 11. At the conclusion of the Chapter, the Short Lesson, O Lord, be gracious unto us, p. 6, shall be said on Sundays and week-days, until Christmas Eve exclusively.

At Terce. ANT. Sing,* O daughter of Sion, be glad, and rejoice, O daughter of Jerusalem, Alleluia.

THE LITTLE CHAPTER. Rom. xiii. 11. BRETHREN, now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Ry. Thanks be to God.

This response shall be always said at the end of all the Little Chapters. SHORT R. Come Thou, and save us,* O Lord God of Hosts, And shall be repeated, Come Thou, and save us, O Lord God of Hosts. . RAISE up, we pray Thee, O Lord, Thy protection we may be rescued from Thy power, and come; that by the perils of our sins which threaten us, and by Thy deliverance we may be saved; Who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the Unity of the Holy Ghost, God for ever and ever. Ry. Amen.

Or this COLLECT. LMIGHTY God, give us grace that

we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which Thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when He shall come again in His glorious Majesty to judge both the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through Him Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Ry. Amen.

At Sext. ANT. Behold the Lord shall come, * And all His saints with Him: and in that day the light shall be great, Alleluia.

THE LITTLE CHAPTER. Rom. xiii. 12. THE night is far spent, the day is at

hand let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

The following Antiphons shall be said on the five week-days before Christmas Eve, beginning on December 17 with those Antiphons for whatever day of the week it may fall upon, and in like manner the other Antiphons shall be said on their own appropriate days of the week. But if December 17 fall upon Sunday, the Antiphons shall begin on Monday the 18th. Those Antiphons, which should have been said upon the day of the week upon which the Feast of St. Thomas falls, shall be said on the Saturday; unless Christmas Eve shall fall upon the Sunday, for then upon the Saturday shall be said the Antiphons for the Fourth Sunday in Advent; the Antiphons of the Eve shall be said upon the Sunday, and those for the weekday on which the Feast of St. Thomas falls, shall for that year be left out The Collect shall be said on the Ember altogether.
