yielding to its evil. We ask not to be spared the events and experiences which alone can make us men, but that we may fight the good fight against all things which would debase our nature, and keep us away from Thee, so that the wilderness and the solitary places of the earth may be made glad through us, and its deserts rejoice and blossom as the rose.

Minister.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

People.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power. For Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are, and were created. Who shall not fear Thee and glorify Thy Name? Thou only art holy : and all nations shalt come and worship before Thee. Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

MORNING PRAYERS

O Lord, our Heavenly Father, Who hast safely brought us to the light and life of another day; Defend us in the same with Thy mighty power, and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings, being ordered by thy governance, may be righteous in thy sight.

Author of peace, lover of concord, in knowledge of Whom standeth our eternal life, Whose service is perfect freedom, defend us Thy servants in all assaults of our spiritual foes; that we, surely trusting in Thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries.

Mighty Ruler of the Universe, Who dost from Thy Throne behold in mercy all the dwellers upon earth; most heartily we beseech Thee with Thy favour to look upon and bless Thy servants the President of the United States, the Governor of this Commonwealth, and all others in Authority; and so replenish them with the Grace of Thy Holy Spirit that they may always incline to Thy will and walk in Thy way. Endue them plen

teously with heavenly gifts; grant them in health and prosperity long to live, and finally after this life to attain everlasting joy and felicity.

Father of Lights, from Whom cometh every good and perfect gift; send down upon Thy ministers and preachers, and upon the congregations committed to their charge the healthful spirit of Thy grace; and, that they may truly please Thee, pour upon them the continual dew of Thy blessing.

Creator and Preserver of all mankind; we humbly beseech Thee for all sorts and conditions of men, that Thou wouldest be pleased to make Thy ways known unto them; Thy saving health unto all our race. More especially, we pray for Thy Holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by Thy good Spirit, that all who profess, and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith, in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. We commend to Thy Fatherly Goodness all those who are any ways afflicted, or distressed in mind, body or estate; (particularly . . . for whom our prayers are now desired); that it may please Thee to comfort and relieve them according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their affliction and care. And now, O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, we give Thee most humble and hearty thanks for all Thy goodness and loving-kind

We bless Thee for

ness to us, and to all men.

our Creation, for Thy continual care over us, and for all the blessings of this life.

But above all, we thank Thee for Thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world, by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of the glory to come. Grant us such a deep and abiding sense of Thy mercies that we may show forth our thankfulness and praise, not only with our lips but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to Thy service and by walking before Thee in holiness and righteousness all our days.

Blessed Saviour Who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto Thee, and dost promise, that when two or three are gathered together in Thy Name, Thou wilt grant their requests; fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of Thy servants as may be most expedient for us; granting us, in this world, knowledge of Thy truth, and, in the world to come, life everlasting, and to Thee shall be all praise and dominion, for ever and ever. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all for evermore. Amen.

A CONFESSION.

+

Almighty and most merciful Father, we confess our wickedness, and pray that we may be truly sorry for our sin. We have sinned against Heaven and before Thee. Have mercy,

O God, after Thy great goodness and according to the multitude of Thy mercies do away our offences. We are not worthy to gather up the crumbs that fall from Thy table. We are not worthy that Thou shouldst come under our roof; for the spirit of evil hath entered in and defiled the temple, which Thou didst consecrate to be the habitation of Thy spirit of holiness and love. Father of Heaven, Thou didst make us to be like Thee. Thou seest how it is with us. Thou didst give us a whole life in which to serve Thee and to advance our hopes of heaven, and we have been so careless of heaven and the pleasant ways that lead to Thee; so wasteful both of our time and talents, that we have too often thrown away Thy precious gifts on our vanities and sins. Father, give us a true contrition, and grace to for ever forsake our errors, that we may use all Thy gracious assistances, and walk with care and prudence and do our duty with such courage and patience, that we
