MORNING PRAYER

FOR

THE SECOND SUNDAY.

+

The Minister, standing before the Congregation, shall reverently recite these sentences.

I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. We wait for Thy loving-kindness, O Lord, in the midst of Thy temple.

Thou wilt show us the path of life: in Thy presence is the fulness of joy; and at Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

Then shall the Minister pronounce this

Meditation.

Brethren, God of His great love has provided for our comfort and solace the blessing of this Sacred Day of Rest. His Presence sanctifies all the gracious associations and occasions of this holy House of Prayer. Therefore is it that we may come and here find rest, and be refreshed in our weariness, and gain strength for the duties and tasks of our daily life. Hither let us come in filial reverence to learn more perfectly our Heavenly Father's will, and what are His gracious wishes concerning us,

and receive new inspiration from His Spirit, that we may consecrate our life to Him in a deeper devotion, and render to our brethren a nobler service, in time to come.

Then shall Minister and People, still standing, join with audible voice in saying this

Act of Thanksgiving.

Lord of Rest and Giver of our Peace,
We now present ourselves before Thee;
Thy children, near and far,

Speak forth their grateful thanks to Thee.
Thy saints at rest in Heaven

Breathe out their Hymn of Praise,

And cast their crowns before Thy Throne. We thank Thee for all Thy gracious gifts, For those we remember,

And those we have forgot.

Thanks, O Lord, for this our daily life,
Its health and strength, its hope and joy,
Its labour and its rest.

O guard our goings out, our comings in,
And keep us in Thy love and peace
For evermore.

Here may be sung some specially chosen

Hymn of Praise and Adoration.

Afterward shall be read the Psalter, the Minister announcing Such and such a Psalm or Selection of Psalms. And after each selection shall be sung, or said, this ascription.

Now unto the King Eternal, immortal, invisible the only wise God;

Be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Then shall the Minister read the Lesson from Scripture, telling where it is found and at the close he shall say, Here endeth the Lesson. Whereupon Choir and People shall sing this, or some other appropriate Hymn or Anthem.

Benedicite, Omnia opera Domini.

O all ye works of the Lord, O ye Angels of the Lord, O ye Heavens, bless ye the Lord: praise Him and magnify Him for ever.

O all ye Powers of the Lord, O ye Sun and Moon, O all ye Stars of Heaven, bless ye the Lord praise Him and magnify Him for ever.

O ye Winds of God, O ye Winter and Summer, O ye Nights and Days, bless ye the Lord : praise Him and magnify Him for ever.

O let the Earth bless the Lord, O ye Mountains and Hills, O ye Seas and Floods, bless ye the Lord praise Him and magnify Him for

ever.

O ye Children of Men, O ye Priests of the Lord, O ye Servants of the Lord, bless ye the Lord praise Him and magnify Him for ever.

O ye spirits and souls of the Righteous, O ye Holy and Humble Men of Heart, bless ye the Lord praise Him and magnify Him for ever. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

:

And the Minister turning to the People shall say

Minister. The Lord be with you;

People.

The Lord also be with thee.

Minister. Let us pray.

And then, all kneeling, shall be said or sung:

Minister. O Lord, show Thy mercy upon us, People. And grant us Thy salvation. Minister. O Lord, save the State,

People.

And mercifully hear us when we call upon Thee.

Minister. Endue Thy Ministers with right

eousness,

People. And make Thy chosen people joyful.

Minister. O Lord, save Thy people;
People. And bless Thine inheritance.
Minister. Give peace, in our time, O Lord,

People.

For it is Thou, Lord, only, that makest us dwell in safety.

Minister. O God, make clean our hearts

People.

within us,

And take not Thy Holy Spirit

from us.

Minister and People.

O Lord our Heavenly Father Who hast safely brought us to the light and hope of another day; defend us in the same with Thy Mighty Power and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings being ordered by Thy

governance may be righteous in Thy sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Minister alone.

Amen.

O God, Author of Peace, Lover of Concord, in knowledge of Whom standeth our Eternal life, Whose service is perfect freedom; defend us in all assaults of our spiritual enemies; that we, surely trusting in Thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries, but, steadfastly meeting our temptations, we may daily win the victory over them, through the might and in the spirit of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Father of Lights, from Whom cometh every good and perfect gift, send down upon Thy chosen Ministers, and upon the congregations committed to their charge, the healthful spirit of Thy grace; and, that they may truly please Thee, pour upon them the continual dew of Thy blessing. Most heartily we beseech Thee with Thy favor to behold and bless Thy servants the President of the the Governor of

United States, and this Commonwealth, and all others in authority; and so replenish them with the grace of Thy Holy Spirit that they may always incline to Thy will and walk in Thy way. Endue them plenteously with heavenly gifts, and grant them in health and prosperity long to live. Creator and Preserver of mankind, we humbly beseech Thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that Thou wouldst be pleased to make Thy ways
