This Service is especially arranged to precede, if so desired, the Celebration of the Holy Communion. The people being in their accustomed places, the Minister shall reverently recite these Sentences.

God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him, must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration. of the Almighty giveth him understanding.

I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.

Antiphon.

Minister and People.

O Thou, Who dwellest
In the high and holy place,
We look to Thee.

We are not worthy

That Thou shouldest come under our roof,
But, Lord, we cannot do without Thee.
Come therefore, O Lord our God,

And dwell with us.

Companion us. Be Thou our Guide,

Our Counsellor, our First, our Last
And Everlasting Friend.

Then shall all sing the Hymn

Anima Dei.

Breathe on us, Breath of God,
Fill us with life anew,

That we may love what Thou dost love;
And do what Thou wouldst do.

Breathe on us, Breath of God,
Until our hearts are pure;
Until with Thee we will one will,
To do, and to endure.

Breathe on us, Breath of God,
Till we are wholly Thine;
Until this earthly part of us
Glows with Thy fire divine.

Breathe on us, Breath of God,
So shall we never die;

But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.

Amen.

Then shall the Minister read the Story of the Promise of the Comforter, St. John xvii, 16-33, and Acts ii, 1-11 verses, saying, The Lesson is taken from the Gospel of St. John and the Acts of the Apostles of Jesus; and at the close, Here endeth the Lesson.

The Lesson.

After the Lesson shall be sung this or some other appropriate anthem or hymn.

Te Deum Laudamus.

We praise Thee, O God we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord.

:

All the Earth doth worship Thee the Father everlasting.

To thee all angels cry aloud the Heavens and all the Powers therein

To Thee Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry,

:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Sabaoth, Heaven and Earth are full of the Majesty: of Thy glory.

The glorious company of the Apostles : praise Thee..

The goodly fellowship of Prophets : praise Thee.

The noble army of Martyrs praise Thee. The holy Church throughout all the world : doth acknowledge Thee.

The Father of an infinite Majesty,

:

Thine adorable, true

Also the Holy Ghost

and only Son,

the Comforter.

Thou art the King of glory : O Christ.

:

Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. When Thou tookest upon Thee to deliver man Thou didst humble Thyself to be born of a Virgin.

When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death Thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers,

Thou sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father.

We believe that Thou shall come to be our Judge.

We therefore pray Thee help Thy servants : Whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy precious blood.

Make them to be numbered with Thy saints: in glory everlasting.

O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine heritage. Govern them and lift them : up for ever. Day by day we magnify Thee. And we worship Thy Name: ever, world without end.

:

Vouchsafe, O Lord to keep us this day without sin.

O Lord, have mercy upon us have mercy upon us.

O Lord, let Thy mercy be upon us as our trust is in Thee.

O Lord, in Thee have I trusted : let me never be confounded.

Then shall the Minister read

The Little Chapter.

Ho! Every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy and eat. Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him, a well of water springing up into everlasting life. And the Spirit, and the Bride, say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And,

whosoever will, let him take of the water of life

freely.

And all the people shall say, or sing,

Thanks be to God!

After which Minister and People shall sing,

Veni, Sancte Spiritus.

Minister.

Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,

People.

And lighten with celestial fire.

Minister.

Thou the Anointing Spirit art.

People.

Who dost Thy sevenfold gifts impart.

Minister.

Thy blessed unction from above,

People.

Is comfort, life, and fire of love.

Minister.

Enable with perpetual light,

People.

The dulness of our blinded sight.

Minister.

Anoint and cheer our soiled face,
