IN preparing this collection of religious poetry, the attempt has been made to meet the various occasions which suggest devout thought. The compiler has found pleasure in presenting specimens from writers in the same communion with himself; but piety and genius have been welcomed from every source. The different productions have been arranged upon a general plan, commencing with the lessons which Nature teaches, and ascending to the highest anticipations of Christian faith. The work, undertaken at the request of the Executive Committee of the American Unitarian Association, has been adopted as one of their series of books entitled The Devotional Library.
