D. W. Comstock, who had been elected to Congress from the Sixth District on November 7, 1916, died while in office. A special election to choose his successor was held on June 26, 1917. The candidates were Richard N. Elliott, of Connersville, Republican, and Finly H. Gray, of Connersville, Democrat. Following are the official returns: On January 23, 1917, Senator William T. Green, representing the counties of Lagrange, Noble and Steuben, died during the session of the General Assembly. A special election to choose his successor was held on February 6, 1917.
