THE present volume is the first one of a new series of reports of which the aim will be to present all criminal decisions of the various courts of the State of New York, including important rulings on trials and all appeals, together with such notes and references as may increase the usefulness of the series. Especial attention will be given to questions arising under the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Penal Code. There are a number of important questions in criminal actions and proceedings, constantly passed upon in matters in which no appeal is taken, and which are therefore never reported in the official series of reports. It is hoped that the reporting of this class of matter may be found a useful feature of the series. As to the fitness of the editors for their task, the series itself must be the only answer; but it may be said that neither is without some previous experience in similar work, and that they will give their best efforts to the end that these reports may be found useful and convenient to the profession.
