thou watchest over us that we awake in safety. With each returning day, we behold new manifestations of thy glory, and each returning day brings to us the merciful tokens of thy loving kindness. Our voice of thanksgiving, therefore, shalt thou hear in the morning in the morning, O Lord! we will direct our prayer unto thee, and will look up.

To thy service, heavenly Father! we would renew the dedication of ourselves, and of all the capacities with which thou hast endowed us. Oh! grant us, through this and through every day, the unspeakable happiness of knowing thee, as our Guide, our Guardian, and our Helper.

As pilgrims and sojourners upon earth, we pray that thou wouldest form us to that mind with which every

condition of life will prove a blessing. If thou seest fit that our circumstances should be easy and prosperous, may we value the pleasures of religion more than the indulgences of the world, and remember that the time may be near at hand, when we shall have need of all the support and consolation which we are able to lay up in our hearts. In the day of our affliction, while we feel the sorrows with which thy providence permits us to be tried, may we preserve an unshaken trust in thee; assured that, whatever be thine appointments, thou art still the Father of mercies and the God of love, and that thou knowest by what discipline we can best be trained for the pure employments of immortality.

Professing to receive Jesus Christ,

thy Son, as the way, the truth, and the life, may we hide his law within our hearts, and yield to him, upon all occasions, a cheerful and unreserved obedience.

Since our days are passing away, and we have business of infinite importance to transact, help us, merciful God! to be sober and watch unto prayer, to improve the talents with which thou hast entrusted us, to execute every good purpose that we have formed, and to live as on the borders of eternity and in the presence of our Judge.

At that awful hour, when heart and flesh shall fail us, and human friendship can afford us no relief, may we have thee for our refuge and our strength, and be able to look beyond the grave, into a world which

knows no change of condition, where all tears will be wiped away, and where peace, innocence, and joy will be the everlasting portion of thy children.

Withhold not, O Lord! thy blessing from those who are united to us in the bonds of nature and affection. Lead them, by thine infinite wisdom, through the snares and difficulties of this mortal life, to never-fading happiness and glory.

O thou, who art nigh unto all that call upon thee in truth! hear, we beseech thee, these our humble supplications, which we desire to present at thy footstool, as the disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

O THOU whose name is holy! the Father of lights, and the King of kings, who livest for ever and ever! Thou art a Being of awful majesty and of incomprehensible grandeur. Thou passest by us, but we behold thee not; thou workest wonders on the right hand and on the left hand, but we cannot perceive thee. Whither can we go from thy spirit? or whither can we flee from thy presence? Thou fillest all in all: thou art God alone.

We desire to adore thee, O Lord!
