THURSDAY MORNING.-FIFTH WEEK.

W

PSALM CXXVI.

HEN the Lord turned again the captivity of Sion, then were we like unto them that dream.

Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with joy.

Then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.

Yea, the Lord hath done great things for us already, whereof we rejoice.

Turn our captivity, O Lord, as the rivers in the south.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

He that now goeth on his way weeping, and beareth forth good seed, shall doubtless come again with joy, and bring his sheaves with him.

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, Who of Thy great mercy hast promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto Thee, have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O GOD, Who again callest us to resume our daily work, make us to hear Thy voice, and incline us this day to do Thy will. May all our doings be such as Thou wilt graciously

approve, and proinote our own good and the good of those around us. And may we and all we do this day be blessed of Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O GOD, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech Thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that Thou wouldest be pleased to make Thy ways known unto them, Thy saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for the good estate of the Catholic Church; that it may be so guided and governed by Thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to Thy fatherly goodness all those who are any ways afflicted or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; that it may please Thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities; giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, the fountain of all wisdom, Who knowest our necessities before we ask, and our ignorance in asking; we beseech thee to have compassion upon our infirmities; and those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask, vouchsafe to give us, for the worthiness of Thy Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

PSALM CXXIX.

ANY a time have they fought against me from my youth up, may Israel now say.

Yea, many a time have they vexed me from my youth up; but they have not prevailed against me.

The plowers plowed upon my back, and made long furrows. But the righteous Lord hath hewn the snares of the ungodly in pieces.

Let them be confounded and turned backwards, as many as have evil will at Sion.

Let them be even as the grass growing upon the housetops, which withereth afore it be plucked up;

Whereof the mower filleth not his hand; neither he that bindeth up the sheaves his bosom.

So that they who go by say not so much as, The Lord prosper you; we wish you good luck in the Name of the Lord.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it

is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee mercifully hear our prayers, and spare all those who confess their sins unto Thee; that they whose consciences by sin are accused, by Thy merciful pardon may be absolved; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

O BLESSED, everliving Saviour, Who camest into the world to save sinners, and by Thy death and rising again hast opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers, keep us, we pray Thee, in the number of Thy faithful and elect people. Evermore feed our souls with Thyself, the living Bread, and purify us in the fountain of Thy most precious blood. Draw us to Thyself the Source of spiritual life, and dwell in us the Hope of glory hereafter. Let the Gospel of Thy grace be proclaimed throughout the wide world, and all hearts open to receive Thee as their rightful Lord. Upon all Christian ministers at home, and all missionaries abroad, let Thy good Spirit so rest, that Thy word spoken by them may never be spoken in vain. Let Thine own Truth overspread the earth, and win all to its obedience. For ourselves, may we remain Thy faithful soldiers and servants to our lives' end, and be for ever one with Thee, O Saviour, Who, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, livest and reignest one God, world without end. Amen.

LORD of all power and might, Who art the Author and Giver of all good things, graft in our hearts the love of Thy Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness, and of Thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee mercifully to hear us; and grant that we, to whom Thou hast given an hearty desire to pray, may by Thy mighty aid be defended and comforted in all dangers and adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LIGHTEN our darkness, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and by Thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of Thy only Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
