Deep in every heart that's human

Is a faithful sounding chord,

That, when struck, wakes sweetest music,Music wakened by a word.

E'en one little word that's gentle,

Good will do, that spreadeth wide,

And perhaps will make ten thousand

See we've all an angel-side.

"LOVEST THOU ME?-FEED MY LAMBS."

HERE has never been a time since the world began when so many consecrated

hands were bearing the cup of instruction to so many eager lips. The whole earth seems waiting for the waters of life; and the disciples of Jesus are hastening to and fro, and knowledge is increased. Bible-readers penetrate the hitherto-sealed zenanas of the Hindoo women. Cultured ladies discover the "missing links" of society, through which light may be transmitted to the dark depths of misery and sin in the teeming city. Benevolent hands teach, in Ragged and Industrial schools, those habits of industry and virtue which are to prove, in future years, the bulwark of our nation; and Christian associations bend all their energies to supplying the newborn millions of American freedmen with that education so long and sinfully withheld.

No longer can the plea of indolence, What can we do? be uttered with any shadow of excuse by those who are at ease in Zion. The weakest sight may discover the whitened harvest-fields, that need only the hand of the patient reaper. The lambs of Christ's world-wide flock are to be fed. The straying, orphaned little ones are to be gathered unto him. The bread of life is to be broken to hungering multitudes. The seeds of truth are to be sown broadcast in the waiting furrows of all lands.

Lord Jesus, baptize thy followers with thine own self-sacrificing earnest spirit. Let every ray of light beaming upon us in this full day of privilege shine through our hearts to light up the darkened pathway of those still struggling in the grim shadows of ignorance and wickedness! Let not wealth, knowledge, refinement, taste, frame for us a pedestal on which to exalt ourselves for the admiring gaze of our fellow
