Through thy commandments I get understanding : therefore I hate all evil ways. Glory be to the Father, &c.

Collect.

¶ For the increase of faith, hope, and charity, and for love of God's commandments.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, give unto us the increase of faith, hope, and charity; and that we may obtain that which thou dost promise, make us to love that which thou dost command, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Michael and all Angels.

September 29.

Collect.

For the succor and defence of angels.

O EVERLASTING God, who hast ordained and constituted the services of angels and men in a wonderful order; mercifully grant, that as thy holy angels always do thee service in heaven; so, by thy appointment, they may succor and defend us on earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity.

Anthem.

T God our helper and preserver.

I WILL lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh even from the Lord, who hath made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; and he that keepeth thee will not sleep.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord himself is thy keeper; the Lord is thy defence upon thy right hand.

So that the sun shall not burn thee by day, neither the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil; yea, it is even he that shall keep thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in, from this time forth for evermore. Glory be to the Father, &c.

Collect.

For the preservation of the church.

KEEP, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy church with thy perpetual mercy and because the frailty of man without thee cannot but fall, keep us ever by thy help from all things hurtful, and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity.

Anthem.

The peace and prosperity of the church.

I was glad when they said unto me, We will go into the house of the Lord.

Our feet shall stand in thy gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built as a city that is at unity in itself.

For thither the tribes go up, even the tribes of the Lord;

To testify unto Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord.

For there is the seat of judgment, even the seat of the house of David.

O pray for the peace of Jerusalem; they shall prosper that love thee.

Peace be within thy walls, and plenteousness within thy palaces.

For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will wish thee prosperity.

Yea, because of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek to do thee good. Glory be to the Father, &c.

Collect.

For the purity and safety of the church.

O LORD, we beseech thee, let thy continual pity cleanse and defend thy church; and because it cannot continue in safety without thy succor, preserve it evermore by thy help and goodness, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity.

Anthem.

T The blessedness of obedience.

BLESSED are those that are undefiled in the way, and walk in the law of the Lord.

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and seek him with their whole heart.

For they who do no wickedness walk in his ways.

Thou hast charged, that we shall diligently keep thy commandments.

O that my ways were made so direct, that I might keep thy statutes.

So shall I not be confounded, while I have respect unto thy commandments.

I will thank thee with an unfeigned heart, when I shall have learned the judgments of thy right

eousness.

I will keep thy ceremonies; O forsake me not utterly.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

Collect.

For grace to perform good works.

LORD, we pray thee, that thy grace may always prevent and follow us; and make us continually to be given to all good works, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Luke's Way.

October 18.

Collect.

For spiritual health.

ALMIGHTY God, who calledst Luke the physician, whose praise is in the gospel, to be an evangelist and physician of the soul; may it please thee, that by the wholesome medicines of the doctrine delivered by him, all the diseases of our souls may be healed, through the merits of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity.

Anthem.

God's care of the righteous.

THE eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers.

The countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil, to root out the remembrance of them from the earth.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth them, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart, and will save such as be of an humble spirit. Great are the troubles of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of all.

He keepeth all his bones, so that not one of them is broken.

But misfortune shall slay the ungodly; and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
