The whole amount received for premiums of life insurance, since the commencement of the Company's insuring lives, was. on the 1st day of January, 1840, $232,851 34, including interest credited to that fund, and exclusive of losses. The whole number of insurances has been 1821. The number of lives remaining insured by the Company, was, on the 1st of January, 1840, 694.

The youngest of the lives insured in the office, is aged fifteen, and according to the tables hitherto used by the Company, has a right to expect to live forty-five years. The oldest life is 64, and has a right to expect to live 12 yeara The amount of premium varies annually with the advancing ages. The amount received the last year for the insurance on lives, ending on the 1st of January, 1840, was $49,997 20.

The amount of insurance effected by the parties, and for which the Company is responsible in the event of death, is $2,451,958.

The amount received for the sale of annuities, on the 1st of January, 1840, where the annuities still continue, was $63,685 40. The number of annuitan's was 24. The amount of annuities paid by the Company annually is $7,563 83.

DIVIDENDS.

The Company have declared two dividends on the capital stock of the Com pany, during the past year, viz:

FARMERS' LOAN AND TRUST COMPANY.

Capital $2,000,000 in Shares of $50 each.

Incorporated February 28, 1822, under the name of the Farmers' Fire Insu. rance and Loan Company. Title altered and Directors classified April 30, 1836. Election 2d Tuesday in June. Dividends, January and July. The charter is unlimited in duration. The whole amount of the Capital has been paid in and mostly loaned upon unquestionable security of Real Property at the rate of seven per cent. interest per annum. The amount loaned being less than fifty per cent. upon the estimated value of the estate. The Legislature has conferred upon the Company, the most ample and extensive trust powers, and has superadded the privileges of insuring lives and granting annuities. The Corporation is authorized "to receive and take by deed or devise, any effects, and property, both real and personal, which may be left or conveyed to it in trust, and to execute any trust which may be created or declared by any deed or devise." In accordance with these extensive corporate grants, the Company confines its business and operations to the execution of trusts, the Insurance of Lives, and the granting of Annuities.
