ANTHEM XLIII.

GOD is gone up with a merry noise and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.

O sing praises, sing praises unto our God: O sing praises, sing praises unto our King. For God is the King of all the earth: O sing ye praises with understanding. Amen. (Psalm xlvii.)

DR. CROFT.

ANTHEM XLIV.

LIKE as the hart desires the water-brooks: so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

My soul is athirst for God, yea, even for the living God: when shall I come to appear before the presence of God?

My God, my soul is vexed within me: therefore will I remember thee.

I will say unto the God of my strength, why hast thou forgotten me?

O send out thy light and thy truth, that they may lead me: and bring me to thy holy kill, and to thy dwelling.

Even unto the altar of God: the God of my joy and gladness.

Why art thou so vexed, O my soul and why art thou so disquieted within me?

O put thy trust in God: which is the help of my countenance, and my God. (Psalm xlii.)

ANTHEM XLV.

BLESSED are they that fear the Lord; and walk in his ways.

For thou shalt eat the labours of thine hands: O well is thee; and happy shalt thou be.

Thy wife shall be as the fruitful vine upon the walls of thine house.

The Lord thy God from out of Zion shall so bless thee, that thou shalt see Jerusalem in prosperity all thy life long:

Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children; and peace shall be upon Israel.

Lo! thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. Hallelujah. (Psalm cxxviii.)

PURCELL.

ANTHEM XLVI.

PRAISE the Lord, O my soul: while I live will I praise the Lord; yea, as long as I have any being, I will sing praises unto my God.

Blessed is he who hath the God of Jacob for his help; and whose hope is in the Lord his God.

The Lord helpeth them to right that suffer wrong; the Lord helpeth them that are fallen; the Lord careth for the righteous.

The Lord thy God, O Sion, shall be King for evermore, and throughout all generations. Amen. (Psalm cxlvi.)

ANTHEM XLVII.

O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou hast restored me.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength, and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Praise the Lord, and call upon his name; declare his doings among the people; make mention that his name is exalted.

Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.

Cry aloud and shout, thou inhabitant of Sion for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee. (Isaiah xii.)

ANTHEM XLVIII.

I KNOW that my Redeemer liveth; and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. (Job xix.)

For now is Christ risen from the dead, the first fruits of them that sleep.

Since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Amen. (1 Cor. xv.)

HANDEL.

ANTHEM XLIX.

He gave them hailstones for rain; fire, mingled with the hail, ran along upon the ground.

And the waters overwhelmed his enemies ; there was not one of them left.

But as for his people, he led them forth like sheep.

He brought them out with silver and gold; there was not one feeble person among their tribes. (Exodus ix; Psalm cv; Psalm cvi; Psalm 1xxviii.)

HANDEL.

For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord. (Communion Service.)

ANTHEM LI.

Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ; thou sittest at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father. (Te Deum.)

Hallelujah! for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth. The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ and he shall reign for ever and ever, King of kings, and Lord of lords. Hallelujah. Rev. xix; and xi.

HYMN FOR WHIT-SUNDAY.

Paraphrase on the 123rd Psalm.

FATHER, to thy throne we bend,
Lord, to thee our eyes ascend;
Servants to our Master true,
Lo, we yield the homage due:
Lord, to thee, our God, we fly,
Heavenly Father, hear our cry.

Holy Spirit, from on high,
Bend on us a pitying eye;
Holy Spirit, shew the way

HANDEL.

Where our steps have gone astray ;
Holy Spirit, cleanse our heart,
Bid the powers of sin depart;
Holy Spirit, by thy love,
Lead us to the realms above.

GOSSEC.
