It has extended beyond the limits originally proposed, in order to embrace all the topics which seemed indispensable in a work of this kind. The present volume contains an extended and carefully prepared treatise upon the important topics of legacies, including Devises and Charitable Trusts; together with the Duties of Executors, Administrators, and other Testamentary Trustees; including the Settlement of Administration Accounts, the Marshalling and Distribution of Assets, and all other matters coming within the range of the Settlement of Estates, both testate and intestate. The whole has been brought within such compass as to be readily mastered by the student; and at the same time the several subjects are treated so much in detail, as to afford, we trust, a safe guide to the profession. It is scarcely necessary to say to those who understand the wide range of the subject, and the immense number of the cases, both English and American, that it has been a work of very great labor, and one not unattended with perplexity, both in the arrangement and the detail.
