INTRODUCTION.

My Brethren,

Could not efteem my

felf a faithful Servant and Disciple of my bleffed Saviour Jefus Chrift, if I did

not seek your Welfare and Salvation as well as my own. 'Tis therefore my conftant Prayer to God, that he would mercifully remember the dispersed House of Ifrael, and gather them once more unto his Favour and gracious Protection. And to this charitable Devotion I am incited by the illuftrious Example of Jefus Chrift

and his Apoftles, who pray'd for their Perfecutors and Murderers with the moft fincere Zeal and Affection. With the fame Spirit I pour out my Supplications to the God of my Fathers, that he would turn away from the Fierceness of his Wrath, which hath long burned against his ancient People; that he would difpel thofe Clouds of Prejudice and Delufion, which with-hold you from acknowledging the Truth, as it is in Jefus; that we may all be one Fold, under one Shepherd Jefus Chrift, and that the Earth may be filled with the Knowledge of the Lord, as the Waters cover the Sea.

I befeech and conjure you, my Brethren, as you will anfwer it before the great Judge and Searcher of all Hearts, that laying afide your Prejudices, conceived againft

me,

me, for the Profeffion which I have made of Faith in Chrift, would seriously and impartially weigh the Arguments which I here offer to your Confideration. By the Force of which I hope I fhall vindicate my Religion, and let in that Light upon you, which I was not able to refift, which will fully detect and expofe the Errors of yours Talmuds and Traditions, in all their monftrous Shapes and Colours.

Remember how much the Prophets of God have complained of the Contumacy of our Anceftors; and fupect your felves of a ftrong Propenfion to the like untractable, refty, and contradicting Spirit.

I have made it my Bufinefs upon this Occafion, to examine the facred Scriptures, the Talmuds,

and the Traditions of the Ancients, and by comparing them together, I am fatisfied that I have difcovered the Time limited for the appearing of the Meffia; whom while you continue to expect, your Expectations are vain and groundlefs; that Period which was affigned by the infpir'd Prophets, being gone and paft many Ages ago: So that whoever fhould now offer himself to you under that Character, cannot pretend to fulfil the Prophecies in this Respect. But Jefus Chrift, whom I embrace as the Meffia, came at a Time, which exactly correfponds with

them.

The Method I have taken to demonftrate to you the Truth of the Chriftian Religion, is as follows.

First,

First, I have fhew'd the Time and Place, when and where the Meffia was to appear; the Manner of his Conception and Birth, and the Benefits, which from his Incarnation accrue to Mankind.

Secondly, I have noted the Types which prefigured Chrift, under their feveral Denominations.

Thirdly, The Miracles which he wrought, whereby he evidently proved, that the Spirit and Power of God was with him.

Fourthly, I have fhew'd, that his Sufferings and Crucifixion were plainly foretold in the Pfalms and the Prophets.
