ADVANTAGES.

No. 61.

Healthfulness, Durability, Unchangeableness, Purity of Colour,
Preservation of Materials, Cheapness.

WHITE LEAD FORMS THE BASIS of almost every Paint, and when used gives out poisonous exhalations, destructive to the constitution. The Lives of delicate and aged persons are often sacrificed by inhaling its pernicious properties; whilst lingering disease and premature death attend those employed in its manufacture and use.

A sufficient substitute for White Lead has for many years occupied the attention of Scientific Men, without their arriving at any practical result. This was eventually in part obtained by Monsr. Leclaire, at Paris, in 1846. Messrs. CROWLEY, WHITE, and CROWLEY now offer to Export Merchants and the Trade, a disinfecting agent in White Zinc, perfectly free from all deleterious properties, OF GUARANTEED PURITY (UNDER BRAND), EITHER IN THE DRY

OR GROUND STATE.

Gentlemen,

(Certificate.)

Ansdale Street, Salt-house Dock, Liverpool, Aug. 23, 1852. We are much gratified to find the last parcel of Oxide of Zine so much improved in body, and as the colour of the first parcel was very satisfactory, we see very little difficulty in its way to more general adoption and use, for it certainly has, in many respects, a decided advantage over White Lead in situations of severe test-contiguity to bilge water; cesses; wherever gases are evolved, &c.-and we may mention two cases in point: the one was a stable and petit, and the other an apartment in an antiquated building, exceedingly low, with the beams prominently crossing it. In both these instances it was customary to have them painted and whitewashed annually. The workman employed was so ashamed of these at the usual time for renewing, that, hearing of the peculiar properties of the Oxide of Zinc in resisting the action of foul air and gases, he gave Zine a trial, and the result was, on his employers going over the work when it was supposed to require doing again, that it was deemed unnecessary. Your Oxide of Zine was that employed, and we have supplied it subsequently, but, of course, time alone will confirm the result. The Zine was used both in paint and dry, same as Whiting or Paris White. We are, gentlemen, your obedient Servants, (Signed, J. MATTHEWS AND CO., Wholesale Colourmen.

1, Orford Street, Liverpool, June 22nd, 1852. THIS is to Certify, we painted the Ship "Owen Potter" in June, 1851, with Zinc Paint, manufactured by Mr. LANGSTON SCOTT, of London, which quite suited our expectation as to colour and durability, on her return rom Calcutta in April last. We also found in the Barque "Agnes" of London, that her cabin, ceilings, state rooms, &c., were not affected by the Steam of a Sugar Cargo, as had always been the caso when painted with White Lead Paint, the Zinc Paint in this case quite retaining the purity of its original J. Dear Sir, Mr. W. W. Cooze, 23, Frith Street, Soho Square, Dec. 16th, 1851. In answer to your inquiry respecting my opinion of the Zinc Paint, I beg to say that, having used it very extensively, I have bad an opportunity of testing it in various ways, and have come to the conclusion that it must ultimately supersede White Lead. I remain, dear Sir, yours very truly,

(Signed)

W. W. COOZE,
Decorator to the Queen.

To L. SCOTT, ESQ. WHITE LEAD.-It is calculated that the use and manufacture of every thousand tons of White Lead produce, on an average, a hundred and twenty patients and five deaths.-Ex. The Builder, October 8th, 1853. CROWLEY, WHITE, & CROWLEY, 10, LOMBARD STREET, LONDON

ALL FORMS OF

NERVOUS, FUNCTIONAL, & RHEUMATIC DISEASES,

WHERE NO ORGANIC CHANGE HAS TAKEN PLACE,

Disappear under the influence of this wonderful agent, with a safety, certainty and speed, which is as marvellous as it is demonstrable beyond the possibility of doubt; for the prospectus contains the Names and Addresses of upwards of 600 Persons relieved within the last 18 Months; and even this great number DOES NOT PROBABLY REPRESENT ONE-TWENTIETH PART OF THE CURES actually effected within that limited period by this simple, safe, and painless remedy! which is now adopted in all the principal HOSPITALS of London and Paris, and by a great number of the first men of the day, and has been exhibited with unprecedented success before the ROYAL COLLEGES of PHYSICIANS and SURGEONS, the ROYAL BRITISH ASSOCIATION, the ACADEMIE at Paris, &c.

The effect being instantaneously perceptible, may be tested freely and beforehand at all the Depots.

No knowledge of Electricity required to apply the Generator. Price from 5s. upwards, according to power. A full description of this extraordinary Discovery, with complete directions for use, testimonials from HOSPITALS, PHYSICIANS, NOBLEMEN, CLERGYMEN, MAGISTRATES, PUBLIC INSTITUTIUNS, &c., may be had gratis (by post for 2 stamps), from C. THE ALTERATIVE ELECTRIC INFLUENCE SHOWS ITSELF GENERALLY FROM THE MOMENT WHEN THE GENERATOR IS APPLIED. THE ELECTRO-GENERATOR, when worn on the liver, has been found A very effectual preservative against Cholera,

supplying the central and hepathic system with vital energy, to resist and counteract all miasmatic influences.

N.B. In this new Apparatus durability is secured, and all metallic or wet contact with the Body entirely obviated. It weighs two ounces, and can be worn with the greatest comfort.
